    Is it necessary to uninstall drivers before updating them?

    Varies...

    Some drivers you can simply update, I think others you'll get lower performance or other problems like BSOD in the worst case.

    Which drivers are you considering to update?

    i would suggest doing it no matter what, its not hard and can save some trouble later on

    I've had to install many drivers (obscure ones) before, and I never bothered to uninstall old ones. Never had a problem, I really don't think it matters.

    It shouldn't matter, and I update without uninstalling all the time -- but if you have problems for some reason you can always try uninstalling/reinstalling.
