I have wondered this as I have noticed in flight simming some add on programs run smooth and others seem more demanding, and they shouldn't be.

Can use more resources resulting in slow down. I usually disable non-essential background programs prior to playing games.

Yes, bad programming can cause slowdowns. The worst programming I know can simply be summed up with this bit of basic programming.

    10 goto 10

Eats 100% of CPU time going in an endless loop as fast as it can.

Poorly written software ALWAYS runs badly; that's the definition of poorly written ;)

Well I fly in a virtual airline and they use ACARS to record youre flight and as time goes on ACARS causes the frame rate to stutter and gets progressively worse as the flight goes on.

Most definitely. It could be some memory leaks or other misuse of system resources.

I dare say - daft question.
Of course bad programming can degrade system performance.

Or if you use a "bad method" but good code you can slow down a system too.

The program in question is suposed to just record you're flight, but for some reason it sucks up frame rates.
