I'm running vista home premium x64 and as it stands right now I have about 10 non-default programs running on bootup, all of which consume cpu power while trying to boot. Some of them I want to initialize right away like Vista Battery Saver, Uranium Desktop, Comodo Firewall, and Trillian. However, once those load, I would prefer my other startup programs to start up in the background, such as avira's Antivir Guard, iReboot, Windows Sidebar, and Gateway Camera Assistant. I would like to be able to launch firefox/word/another app in the foreground while those processes slowly launch in the background.
Is there a way to limit each process to x% cpu power so that I can have them start slowly and begin using my notebook quickly after bootup?

Thats a tough one....
I doubt it can be done in XP, because I cant see any settings for startup items, except modifying the services, etc. from msconfig..
It could probably be done by some software..!! not sure of it..!!

Yeah, I'm trying to find some but not having much luck. I was hoping someone on this forum might know how. I'm running vista though, not xp. The stats in my sig are for my desktop; I haven't had time to update them for my new laptop.
I'd especially like windows sidebar to boot in the background; it always seems to lag anyway so it might as well take it's time. -
Found a software called ThreadMaster....
ThreadMaster Monitors Threads and handles high CPU utilization on a per application basis.
I am trying it out right now..
Or u could try out Process Tamer as well..!! -
There is an excellent antispyware program that I use called Winpatrol that allows you to control and delay startup programs. Check it out.

In order for the delayed startup to work, I imagine that it would have to. Unfortunately I don't have my Vista machine with me to test this though.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but is it possible to choose which folders you want to see hidden files in? I like having the files visible in the c:\User folder for easy modding of the start menu but I don't want the two desktop.ini files on the desktop to show. Is it possible to hide them only on the desktop?

Is it possible to adjust bootup this way?
