Hi there,
I'm a xps m1530 owner. Few days ago i've decided to install another OS .So long story short , my hard drive is now FULLY MESSED UP (bad tables, partition magic wont start up ... )!
I think now to attach it to another laptop in order to do reformat & repartition.
My question : Is it possible to copy all the content from the RECOVERY partition , and after whole procedure (formating repartitioning etc) , to make new 10gb RECOVERY partition.

it is possible to back up the recovery partition. you would need to hook the hd to another pc and use a program to copy the partition and all the files to another HD. Something I would try though, Download the iso for gparted burn the iso to a disk then boot from gparted and see if you can fix your partition tables. Then if you want to do a restore you can use hirens boot cd to see if you can recover your original partition.

Doesn't the recovery partition have to be at a certain location on the drive? It seems to me I remember reading that if the BIOS does not find the recovery partiton at a particular spot on the driver it will be unable to use it.

Speaking of which, I think the recovery partition sofware only works if your partitions remain unchanged.

Symantec's Ghost32, if you can lay hands on a copy.
Is it possible to backup the RECOVERY partition?
