Let's say that I am going to reformat a 1 week old laptop. Is there a way I can just do a system restore to a point that was 1 week ago to restore all the settings as if the laptop was brand new straight from the box?

And Where is Your Restore Point Stored ? If you're going to Format then i suspect it will get deleted too , so take full backup or image to be safe ;)

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
...and see when your restore points were created.

Yes, if your laptop has a hidden recovery partition. But you can only revert to the out of the box state, not restore to a previous point.

How do I check this? I just want my laptop back to out of box state. I did some tinkering that might have caused registry problems :(
