    Hi,

    I have Sony Vaio VGN-FZ340E.

It has Windows Vista (home premium) installed. I want to install Windows XP for the reason that most of my softwares are not compatable with Vista.

I have tried installing XP on it, but it doesn't detect my hard disk

    Need someone to assist me

    Regards

You have to partition your HD first. You cannot install XP on top of a Vista installation. If your software is incompatible, try running them in compatibility mode.

Compatibility mode: Right click on the .exe file of the application, go to Properties, click on the Compatibility tab, check the checkbox that says Run in Compatibility Mode, select your Operating System from the dropdown list, click Apply followed by Ok. See if your program runs afterwards.

I did the partitions by installing new Vista first. And when i tried to install Windows XP, it said the same error

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer - supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3

When i right click the exe file, go to the comptability tab and check the compatability check box, i cannot find my operating system. Of course, these softwares came prior to Vista.

XP does not natively recognize sata drives, so you'd have to slipstream the appropriate sata drivers for your chipset into an XP install disc using nlite.

You Should See Something like , in the screenshot Windows XP sp2 is selected ... for example you need to run a program and which was created with windows 2000 in mind then select win2k from the drop down box...

I got your point. But the question is that while you are in vista, and you want your softwares to be compatable with Vista, then which option would you select when there is no Vista in the drop down box.

You don't pick Vista, you pick the operating system that your software was originally designed to run on. When you do, Vista attempts to emulate that os when running the program. Just keep in mind that this does not always work.......

No man. That didn't work either. I got the error message while installing kaspersky

Kaspersky anti-virus has one or more drivers with known incompatabilities with this version of windows. please contact your software vendor....

I'm not surprised, as compatability mode rarely works with security software.

Either you will have to get Vista compliant apps, or just get rid of it and go with XP (and hope there are XP drivers for your laptop)......

Thanks buddy. You tried your best.

Now, the only solution to install windows xp is to get sata drivers integrated with xp. I'll try it later, and let you know if i feel any problem

R4000 is right you will have slipstream your Sata drivers and build a new xp disc. If you Google nlite there are a bunch of guides out there.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I cloned the sata drive that came with this laptop and upgraded to a new sata drive. Later, after formatting C drive, I did a fresh install on XP using the disk Dell sent. Neither time did I need to slipstream anything. I take it what was needed was on the CD Dell sent?

The sata drivers were already part of the Dell disc, yes. A standard Microsoft disc will not contain these.........

Even if you install xp in FZ sony doesn't provide any power management and some other utlities for xp. Your function keys won't work. You have to live with that. If you had asked this question in the "sony" section you would have got more answers.

Search from the top most search box.
