Is it possible to make a fresh Windows 10 installation if current OS is Windows 7?

I have a malware infected 64-bit Windows 7 Professional OAM installation on my Lenovo laptop. Thanks to Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder I also know the 25-character product key. I would like to reinstall Windows on this PC. Do I need to first install Windows 7? Or is it possible for me to install Windows 10 directly?

No, it never had Windows 10 installed. I first I thought that this Windows 7 Professional was installed by Lenovo, but I guess it was installed by previous owner because there is a PRO Windows 8 sticker under the laptop.

From my own experience (on a Dell Latitude E6230) you can just install Windows 10 Pro and activate with your Windows 7 Pro key, assuming that the key has not been used to activate Windows 10 before. It probably still works so doesn't hurt to try if you have a spare hard drive.

The question is it a genuine copy of Windows 7 that the previous owner installed in your laptop?

So, dumping a malware infected Windows 7 install for an already infected Windows 10 is somewhat of an oxymoron. That is what people do not understand. Windows 10 already has a form of Malware pre-installed on it, with privacy issues, data collection, and pop up ads. TBH, you would be no better off.

    Just my two cents.

That was true when the Windows 10 upgrade program was going on but not anymore. You need a Windows 10 key to activate Windows 10

This is the problem the Owner has the Product Key for Windows 7 if the system was a OEM Win8 with UEFI product key that is most likely the key you found. So your only way to know is contact MS and confirm your Product Key is Win7 or Win8. Even if it is 8 you can use it to upgrade to Win10 if the free upgrade is still to be had. Otherwise you will have to buy a Win10 new install to work.

This in itself is a oxymoron into itself. Win10 doesn't have popups ads so not sure where your getting your info but it's surely mixed up with malware programs that has nothing to do with full Win10 system. There are already measure one has controls to with the latest Win10 updates so unless your not looking there then one shouldn't be making claims they can't backup with. Win10 for better or worse is here to stay and when 2020 rolls around expect yourself to get botnet.

I downloaded Windows 10 ISO from here, wrote it to USB flash-drive with Rufus and did a fresh install(deleted previous partitions, etc). During installation no product key was asked. Now it says that Windows is activated with a digital license. I guess the installation is genuine? Just out of curiosity why didn't Windows installer ask me for a license key? Is it because this laptop had Windows 8 Pro(based on the sticker under the laptop) installed in factory and license is stored in laptop UEFI?

oh that's good to know. So it seems like Microsoft are still honoring the upgrades to their latest OS virus :)

The reason it didn't ask you for a key is that it picked up the Windows key which was embedded in your BIOS

    Enjoy

Unless your system has a SLP key in the bios if it does Windows 10(not sure if true Pre-Anniversary edition) will see it and honor it and install the appropriate version whether that be Home or Pro etc

The answer to your last question is yes

Depends, if you choose upgrade, then it'll write over it and keep everything in your old OS. Some systems let you use both 10 and 7. If you choose custom and choose the partition that the old OS is on, then the old OS will be deleted since the selected partition will have to be emptied out. USE Disk Cleaner after the installation to see if you have any remains files for your old OS.
