Do not delete BOOTSECT.BAK. Read the RHDSetup.txt file. Chances are it was a setup log of sorts for some program. You may be able to tell by its contents if it is safe to delete; however, if it is hidden, it is probably not safe.
You can probably uninstall the Motorola Fax thing if you don't plan to use it.

Double click on the txt file to see if you can tell what created it and what info it contains. I would generally say it is safe to delete. If you are unsure
then move it to a temp folder for a week or so and see what happens.
It's not required by the system that I can find just left over from some install.

    On the bootsect.bak.
enter that into google and you will get a lot of hits. Reading that info and knowing your setup should help you to know if you can get rid of it. I'm thinking that the answer is probably NO. If it is only a few k in size I would keep it. A few of the google hits I glanced at would make me want to keep it if it were my system. Again though I don't know your setup.

I believe the motorola fax is the device driver for your modem (someone please correct me if I'm mistaken here I'm not at home to dbl check this). Rather than uninstalling it which will leave you with a big yellow ? in your device manager go to the device manager (control panel-> system->hardware tab -> device manager button)
Find the modem device and expand it.
Then right click on the modem and select DISABLE.
That's what I did since the mobo bios on my 9260 won't let me turn off the modem or com ports in bios.
[edit] LOL 3 of us posted at the same time. well that confirms some of the info anyhow

You should be able to remove those files without suffering any truly dire consequences (after all, you've already been through Vista, so how hard can anything else be? ).

The file BOOTSECT.BAK appears to be a backup file created when you changed operating systems, and was most likely created as part of a fail-safe system so the old system could be restored if the change failed. As jd91651 says, a quick google will turn up lots and lots of hits: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=bootsect.bak&btnG=Search . The discussion has even made its way onto the MS TechNet forums, such as here https://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1391563&SiteID=17 for example. Since it would appear that your OS change was a success, there doesn't appear to be much reason to keep a backup file that was created solely in order to recover from a failed change-over.

The file RHDSetup.txt is a little more opaque; however, by googling on "RHDSetup"+Vista a lot of hits come up that refer to the Realtek High Definition Audio driver, see: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=RHD-Setup+vista&btnG=Search . Now, assuming that you have Realtek high def. audio on your system, that suggests to me that this file is/was part of the installation package for installing the necessary drivers. Assuming, further, that you have already successfully installed the drivers, it probably got left behind by accident because the clean-up procedure of the installation mechanism didn't catch all of its own droppings, and so there doesn't seem to be any reason that you should have to keep the setup text-file around, so it can most likely be deleted without ill effect.

Of course, if both of these files are small, the safest course of action (other than simply leaving them alone) would be to make copies of them in a safe place, and then delete them - that way you can restore them if deletion causes any problems.

Why are you so concerned about an 8kb file? ;). Surely you don't need the space.

You should take a look in the C:\Windows folder... there are lots of messy files in there too!
