I just heard that XP can only handle 1 GB of RAM, no matter how much your notebook can handle. Is that true?

Not at all. Running it right now with 2 GB. It'll max out at about 3.25 GB (32-bit) but you could theoretically have 48 GB in the machine and it would still run fine, it just won't recognize it all.

Windows 98 is limited to 1 GB IIRC (though up to 1.5 GB is possible in some cases), but new machines won't have Windows 98.

Thanks everyone! Wow, everyone's here on Sunday nites! It was a guy I ran into at the local Barnes and Noble, not claiming to be a tech guy at all, we were just shooting the breeze....sounds like he was mistakenly remembering something he heard about 98.
