I'm having some troubles with drivers, although not really a big deal, I'd like to reformat my laptop. I last reformatted on Monday, and I plan on reformatting tomorrow morning. Is there an issue with reformatting twice in less than a week? Will the computer be slower? I just got the laptop 12 days ago, and this will be the thrid time reformatting since I got the laptop. Most importantly, IS IT SAFE?

No; granted, the most unreliable component in a computer is the hard drive, however even hard drives are manufactured by companies according to predefined specifications that specify how many times a QC-approved product can perform its function. In other words, a hard drive should be able to handle what you're doing, assuming it isn't defective or already old. I guess you'll find out whether that assumption is justified. ;)

You won't, just do a quick format if you're really that worried. A HDD can be formatted many many times, and it's not like you're doing this every day continuously for months or years, so nothing to worry about.

are you FULL or quick formatting... not that i kno the actuall difference it makes on the drive. But i assume is worse to constantly keep full reformatting your drive. However, if you keep quick formatting u mite leave fragments and problems behind. So i would say MOSTLY quick format. But you should probably full format every 3-4 quick formats...

It does not really matter. You are writing once to every location. That is it.

You write and read from the drive 100's of times, often in the same locations, just by using the laptop for a few hours. So a full or quick format is nothing compared to normal use.

    You are fine.

If it's going to fail, it won't be because you formatted twice. It'll be because it was pretty much destined to fail.

Yes you're correct, it doesn't make a difference in terms of writing. I was only suggesting quick format to petezjunior because he seems worried and that the HDD hardware will work a lot less by not scanning the entire disk like a full format.

    everyone seems to know.

no problem. you could even format a third time if you really wanted to. very little wear on the hard drive even compared to normal usage, despite feeling like a procedure of epic proportion. a full reformat that takes an hour is probably equal in wear and tear to about a minute of normal laptop usage. the hard drive heads don't have to start and stop. you aren't abusing the same parts of the disc over and over like in normal operation. they just start, write everything once, and then stop. and don't worry about normal operation either!
