I currently have Windows Vista Home Basic, is it worth upgrading to Vista Ultimate? What advantages do Ultimate have over Basic?

You will most likely not need Ultimate...unless you want (long delayed) Ultimate Extras or business features. I'd suggest you upgrade to Home Premium, though, to get Aero, Media Center and more entertainment options.
-
I also think the best benefit to price ratio is with the Home Premium version, the rest are just little extra here and there but nothing grand.

I'm not using it for business or anything, just for school, movies, and games... Home Premium is better (for the money)?

Yes, Home Premium is best suited for your tasks.

What features are included in Ultimate (aside from future business-packs) that are not in Home Premium?
-
Ultimate Extras, like Dreamscene (not released yet, but its been previewed and in Beta), are found in Ultimate and not found in Home Premium. But remember, this "cool" feature is very heavy on system resources.

What's in the Extras? And by system resources, do you only mean RAM and Harddrive space? Or do you mean RAM, HD, Processor, AND GPU?
-
None that matter for the average user (students, etc)

Ultimate Extras doesn't offer much:
Windows DreamScene, a utility that allows videos to be used as desktop backgrounds.
BitLocker and EFS Enhancements, two tools (Windows BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool and Secure Online Key Backup) that facilitate the use of security features in Windows Vista.
Hold 'Em Poker Game, a version of Texas hold 'em.
MUI language packs, add-ons that allow Windows to be displayed in another language.
Upcoming: Group Shot, a photo editing program developed by Microsoft Research.
Just trust me, you will not need Vista Ultimate. Home Premium is enough for your tasks, Ultimate will be excessive. -
Other than Dreamscape (talk about a dream?) Ultimate is a combination of business and premium, or just another way to make money!
I heard a rumor I can't confirm but, MS next OS is going to come with a coin box so you have to feed quarters in while you use it. Has anyone else heard this or is someone f***ing w/me? -
Just one added point--
STUDENTS who will be hooking their computers up to university managed networks MUST HAVE Vista Business or Ultimate. This does not mean that you will not be able to get on the Internet with Home at school. What it does mean is that if the school requires you to join the school's domain to access shared resources (file shares, printers, etc) that you cannot do it with Home Basic or Premium
As always, check with your school before making final decision -

up to you basic is pretty bare i have premium and its got everything i need but here are the comparisons of all the diffrent versions so ytou can see exactly whats diffrent http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx

OK, im running ultimate. i really like it. if you have to pay for it (i didnt) id say pass. thats my honest opinion. other users have said go for home premium and i say that advice is Savvy, right on. The multimedia stuff is worth the upgrade and aero is really cool. its a much nicer OS. Home Basic is worthless.
Unless you are using the added wireless and biz support features, you wont really need or want to pay for ultimate. if you get a copy through school heavily discounted or free like i did, then go for it. worth the money? no. Cool? yeah. Otherwise, id recommend Home Premium. that is a worthy upgrade and youll be a lot happier once you ditch basic.

If I were you, I would consider Home Premium a minimum. If you're the type of my sister, who does not care, and don't use a lot of feature often, then Home Basic will suit you, but if you're computer savvy, premium is minimum
Is it worth upgrading Vista OS?
