Just wondering, because that would be great. A lot of google results out there give tons of results for customization, I'm going to do that later. Right now I'm looking for the absolute best ways to strip down XP Pro SP3 into bare bones like I can do with Vista.

    Thanks...

    XP Basics =

    Black viper -> Disable services

Tune XP (Driver heaven) -> tune boot speed/shut down/memory

    Disable Start up apps

Control panel -> change visuals (of os) for performance

I was thinking of writing one at one point but seems like everyone uses vista XD

Use the original nlite to shrink the XP install CD to bare bones. It works the same and better than vlite. I've done it, and successfully installed XP SP3 three times now, follow this guide here , it's simple to follow and works. I brought my install CD down to 300 megs just by disabling basic stuff.

    Good luck!

Well I used vLite and had a ton of problems, some people recommending not touching it since it can do more harm than good. I was using a 64 bit version of Vista, but Im not sure why that would cause so many software issues. Most of my problems were Microsoft based ... I thought their own programs would work with their 64 bit OSes ... but then again they never said it would work with vLite'd versions. Just hard to see how vLite over-stripped.

    How safe is nLite?

    & thanks X2P

XP SP3 is pretty slick and smooth as compared to Vista. I don't think it needs 'tweaks'.
Anyway, don't remove System Restore in XP. :p

 Oh no! I did that about three weeks ago! But seriously, why's it more necessary in XP than Vista/2K/ME?

Or do you actually mean "remove" and not "turn off"?

i've put the guide in my sig now. just check it out :)
have a look at the vlite/slimming vista/minlogin guides as well
    nb
minlogin did in my case literally halve xp boot time however it is a specialised embedded component, that has many disadvantages- such as no login screen, which is why i didnt want to include it in my general xp tweaking guide.
