Without some chip in the battery that supports battery thresholds or something, I don't think there is a way other than manually unplugging the battery.

Excellent question. I was wondering the same thing, and concerned about frequent charges from USB harming the battery or creating memory. After reading that website about Li-ion batteries, I'm no longer concerned. Thanks Rablat.

I was always wondering why laptop manufacturers won't put the switch on a battery or a laptop to disable the charge or to just disconnect the battery at all...
The answer might be in the accessories (batteries) sales by manufacturers. They probably forcing you to buy new batteries over years by killing yours with neverending recharge.
