Well um, im in college and while im taking notes there are lots of charts and graphs and stuff in the lecture, so is there a way to free draw these with a mouse kinda like you do in paint, except in the middle of the document?

which Office bundle do you have?
if your office bundle comes with One Note, you can try that..
i haven't used One Note before, but i know you can draw graphs with it, and it saves files pretty efficiently..

i have one note, does it open .doc files, since my prof puts up lecture notes with simply the empty graphs and i have to draw them on during the class.
and printing them out isnt an option since its like 30-50 pages of notes per week lol.

I'd recommend OneNote 07 for taking notes like that, it's more freeform in terms of page layout than Word. For example, each input type (drawings, charts, text on a page) is in movable "blocks" on a page. You can import your Word notes you took already into OneNote 07 by printing them to the OneNote virtual printer. Then they will import as images that will be searchable like regular notes due to OneNote's character recognition.

If you don't have OneNote (I'd check your start menu to make sure) you can draw in Word, but you'll have to make sure you make space for your drawing to fit in between note sections on your page, or the drawing might end up "on top" of your text. You'll need to create a "drawing canvas" in Word. Here's how:

    1. Click in your document where you want to create the drawing.
    2. On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes, and then click New Drawing Canvas.

After that you can then draw on the canvas. To draw, click Shapes, and then click Freeform or Scribble under Lines. To stop drawing, simply double click.

I've used drawing ability in both Word and OneNote, and feel that drawing works best on a tablet PC,-I found myself spending so much time trying to use the touchpad (you might want to forget about the mouse thing if you'll be going from class to class-the desks might just be too small ;) ) to try and draw the graphs/charts, that I missed parts of the notes. Now in those classes (math and economics) I just use an old fashioned piece of paper.

    Hope this helps out

    Ricky :)
