I do it all the time with Word Docs; was wondering about folders.
Thnx.

There are tons of freeware out there that do the job.Just Google "lock folders free".....
-
Pismo Technic Inc. - Pismo File Mount Audit Package
Not exactly just a folder with a password, but rather a encrpyted file that you open and then a folder appears and when done you lock the file/folder. -
ownership and permissions. learn them, set them, use them.

Recommend AxCrypt - simple and effective (and free too)

just use winrar and pack the folder into a rar file. safest way + quickest way to do it. onwnership and permissions is not all that great. try it yourself and you'll see the downfall. winrar = best. and you can always add to the rar aka the folder by dragging files into it.

I just want to have to enter a passwrod everytime I open certain folders, exactly where they are right now.
Why isnt there the same option for a folder as there is for an individual document? Seems to me that this would be so simple to design. -

What id like to ultimately see is something that doesn even let you open up the folder and see the names of the docs inside...
-
and you can encrypt anything, indivudal documents, whole folders or more.
here's why winrar is better than any other of these encryption program, and believe me i was in your shoes and tried many encryption programs and in the end i came back to a simple compression program that i've already had but never thought much about, Winrar.
1) you can encrypt folders or file so that you can't even see their names...
2) with winrar, unlike auxcrypt where when u encrypt a folder and you add another file to the folder, you have to manually encrypt that file. with winrar, if you encrypt a folder, you can add to the folder and the files will be automatically encrypted.
3) with winrar you are essentially compressing folders or files into a rar file, and alot of times, the rar file is smaller in size than the original folder, so you save space.
again, i am only helping you out be giving suggestions. if you don't like it, you don't have to use it, don't really matter to me. -
Truecrypt is good too, but it probably does way more then you need to do

check this thread out. it was just recently posted. it should answer most of your questions -
As noted before, working with ownership and permission rights is the Win7 endorsed way to go. It probably requires creating multiple user accounts on your machine, each with a different level of access privilege. It'd take the better part of half a day to set up the accounts and access rights if there are multiple rules you want to apply, the rest of the day to work out the bugs. That's all AFTER you understand the risks and benefits of using all the bells and whistles of UAC and permissions. Hence, look for third-party options that are just a quick install and option set. -
Is there a way to password protect/limit access to an entire folder?
