    after a clean install of windows, i added some music files to the 'my music' folder and some video files to the 'my videos' folder but now they(the icons) appear as normal folders. is it possible to make it so that the folder icons have that musical note on it and the little film reel on it? i know its not a big deal i just prefer it to be that way. is there something i can tweak with on tweak ui?

    Try doing a system restore, that will roll things back to the way they were. ;)

    Then, stick your music in the folder - don't overwrite it.

    Right click on the folder > Properties > Customize > Change Icon > Choose whatever you want, including the originals.

    Yeah you can only change icon for folder that you create and not folder that's created by window already.

    I found away where you can restore this. Each of these folder with title like "My" tend to have a hidden system file titled Destop.ini inside the folder. So what you need to do is click on tools->Folder Options->Views tab. You need to check the show hidden file and the "show protected system file". If you don't see the Desktop.ini now you need to create it using notepad. Either way the content of the ini should be as follow

    [DeleteOnCopy]
    Owner=Owner
    Personalized=13
    PersonalizedName=My Music
    [.ShellClassInfo]
    [email protected],-12689
    IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
    IconIndex=128

    The above was for the icon for "My Music" if you want different icon for different file you have to change the IconIndex. Music note on folder is index 128. If you want to find the index for different icon. You should try changing the icon for a different folder then obtain the index number by reading the Desktop.ini from that folder

    Hope this help

    Make new folders and choose the icons... or you can just go to My Computer > Shared Documents and just copy the Shared Music and Shared Videos to wherever and just rename them. Then drag all your files into the new folders you just renamed.
