The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Is there any program out there that will shut off your computer? Like for example, if i told the program to shut the computer off at 8pm at night, will the program than shut off the computer at 8pm at night?

I know, for windows, you can type in the command window:
    shutdown -t xx
(where xx is to set the timeout for shutdown to the xx seconds)

I won't vouch for it since I've never used it m'self, but I did come across a freeware utility called Shut Down My PC that claims to do precisely what you want.

You don't need any third-party software to do this. You can use Task Scheduler to create a task that performs the shutdown at the time you want every day, or only on certain days, etc. See Windows Help & Support Center for details, or ask if you need more help.
