    G'day,
On my notebook (sig), I have Windows 7 Ultimate, I'm just wondering If I really need Ultimate, or should I go professional. I bought Ult, but also have access to Pro from my cousin who I went halvies in as he got a discount for being a student. Should I go professional? Or stay Ultimate?

    Cheers.

Are you really asking, "Should I waste hours of my time by wiping out my system and throw away my Windows 7 ultimate disc and load Windows 7 Professional, because the prospect of potentially using or not using bitlocker or the various language additions provided by 7 are just not my cup of tea?"

    You have it. Keep it.

Why would your cousin not use (in the future) his copy of Win 7 pro and give it you? And seriously there is no need to start a thread for this.

Would you have saved any money? It didn't sound like it, but very few need Ultimate anyway.

Well, I was receiving Windows 7 as a gift + I payed for a little, I was meant to get Professional, but Dad got the wrong one! I don't know how he got them mixed up, there's a couple hundred dollar difference :s But anyway, Ultimate seems just too much for me. I don't know really, That's why I thought of going to Professional. I also forgot to mention, after me and my cousin bought 7, he got another for free from his university, so, that settles the 1 license. ;)

Then Pro will be too much for you, too. The only difference is more languages and bitlocker.

Well, I won't use more languages or BitLocker... That's my point! The extra's in Ultimate, I probably won't use! So do I save resources and go to Professional?

Bitlocker and the extra languages surely don't use any extra resources if you're not using them. Right now they are just sitting there, dormant. The extra languages not even installed. If you switch it will be exactly the same in all but title.

^ +1 to what he said. No performance difference. But if you got it already, just keep it. Unless you don't mind the hassle of backing up data, and re-installing Windows.

Maybe on my next due re-install I'll put Pro on it - which is on 8th March 2011, or before, depends on how I'm feeling. Thanks for all your input!

There's absolute no reason to use pro instead of ultimate if you can't refund your ultimate.

Wow, some people on here are quite nasty, kinda thinking whether I should stay or not :s ANYWAY, I installed 7 on March 8th of this year, so I figured a year later should be suffice... and don't question me about how I run things... I don't question you, you don't question me.

ALSO, this thread can be closed Mod's, My question is answered :) Thanks to those who helped.
