I'm perfectly fine with the standby function. But on my old desktop, hibernate would give the PC problems, messing up system files and operation.

Anyone know if using either standby or hibernate (too much) is bad in any way?

Hibernation doesn't have anything wrong with itself. Generally if hibernation doesn't work, usually you need to update XP or possibly your BIOS. Hibernation can have problems caused by certain software. There is a lot of different variables as to why it might not work.

With that said, I hibernate 99% of the time. I turn my laptop off and do a clean boot maybe once or twice a week.

I don't use hibernate very often. It has messed up my laptop before. However if it doesn't screw up your laptop I would use it. Otherwise I use Standby.

I like hibernate, I would use it alot, but Windows is Windows and it needs a fresh restart alot, but I use it when I can it starts up my notebook faster.
