Hi,
I was curious, I know we can shut down a number of XP services to make XP faster. Can we do the same with Vista? Will a tweaked Vista run in a similar speed to XP?
Thanks,
Rich

yep, you can do the same to Vista as you can to XP, just be careful about what you disable. for instance, you could turn off readyboost, superfetch and the new search indexing if you want to make the system occupy as little resources as possible. that said, i think the latter two actually make the OS feel more responsive, but YMMV.
as to the rest, i don't think that any amount of service tuning will allow Vista to offer the raw performance of XP. -
If you are disabling aero don't forget to disable also dwm - Desktop Window Manager, it eats a lot of resources running ont he background.

Thanks for the tips, I will give that a try!

If you disable UAC (User Account Control), the boot time will decrease by 2/3, and overall "snapiness" will increase greatly.
Perhaps is should be called "User Acceleration Canceling".
Is there anyway to slim down Vista to make it close to XP's snappy'ness?
