Ok this may not be a question for here or it may.

Basically, I have a new laptop with Vista. I had all my songs on an external drive using Itunes in the computer. Now I have itunes in the new Vista laptop and dumped the folders with all the songs onto the new Itunes.

    Heres what Im noticing.

In Itunes, you can go into a songs tag info (these are MP3s and AAC files) and you can put lyrics and change other info like song title and stuff.

On the new computer, in Itunes, some songs dont show lyrics as being an option to put in the file. Yet if I look on my ipod, at the SAME song file, itunes shows me an option to put lyrics in.

Is this possibly some vista security/permissions/media file user account control/ whatever type of issue?
Is this Windows trying to control my media files that I bought off of Emusic or Itunes?

I once heard that the copyright control in Vista was a pain in the neck compared to XP.

Sorry if I wasted your time and this is just some Itunes issue that I dont get.

    thanks!

Programs usually need to be run as admin to be able to edit stuff on external hard drives...

Do you have the same user on the new computer as was on the old computer?

So how do I know if Im an admin or not? I mean, Im the only one thats ever used this laptop. I didnt set up any other users that Im aware of.

I was digging further though and found that on the drive properties, under "security", I changed the users "everyone" and the user that is my name to allow full control of files.

It seemed to fix the problem, but now I have a further question.

Under the Security tab of the drive properties, it shows several "group or user names".

    1. Everyone
    2. Creator owner
    3. System
    4. Admin (me)
    5. user (me)

Is this what it should show? Why is there one for me with admin, and user. I only want to be an admin.

Anyway, thanks for help, if you or anyone has answers to these follow up questions - well thank you too!!

No, the name in this computer is changed, but I didnt really "set up" any users. Its just me on the laptop and I thought I was only an admin (see my post just above this)

Vista respects existing ownership of files. If you use the same user on both machines, both will have the same ownership rights. It is, however, very easy to take ownership of all files.

In Vista, the first user created is an administrator. Therefore, you are indeed running as an administrator.
