This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Is this a good clean up process?

    2 Avast! antiVirus full scan
    3 Disk Cleanup
    4 Diskeeper Disk Defragmenter
    5 AdAware
    6 Spybot S&D
    7 Microsoft Defender
    8 CCleaner

    any thing to add? or a different order?

    and should it be done weekly, bi-weekly or monthly?

    diskeeper is good. dont use avast. avast suxxx. get kaspersky. registry machanic is good too. ccleaner is quick and easy.

    Even doing this every month is not worth the effort, in my opinion, unless you constantly install and uninstall new software and download all kinds of things from the web. For some people, that kind of clean up is only necessary once or twice a year.

    agreed.

    however, if you're going to do all that, you'll basically want to do all your virus scans, spyware scans, CCleaner, etc. first, THEN defrag.

    i don't think it hurts to run the virus and adware scans regularly -- just schedule them to run automatically at a time when you won't be using the computer, such as the middle of the night or a time where you have a regular commitment. the registry cleaners and degfrags certainly don't need to be run weekly. monthly should be more than often enough.
