I can get the following deal through my employer:

    Vista Ultimate Full Version: $259.97
Office 2007 Home and Student: $76.70
Total after tax and shipping: $369.01

I am going back to school in the fall, but I don't think my institution offers anything better than the base discounts for Vista and Office. How does this look to you guys?

Well compared to the retail prices:

    Vista Ultimate Full: $359.99
    Office 2007 H&S: $129.99

    That is a good deal.

Before spending any amount of money on Vista, I would use it first, to determine if I actually wanted to replace an XP installation with it. Besides that, very few people actually *need* the "extras" of Vultimate - though one could easily argue very few need Vx to begin with.

Try before you buy. Don't get Vista simply because you see it on sale. Especially when the sale will still set you back $260.

Agreed. Office '07 isn't worth anything close to $70 - especially when you can do virtually everything for free with Open Office.

This isn't to replace an XP installation, but rather to be installed on my new Macbook Pro in bootcamp. I figure that Vista WILL be the future in a year or less, so might as well take advantage of this while I can. I do see where you are coming from though.

Small Business is a much better choice. It comes with Outlook which is a must have for business.

OpenOffice is a great program that pretty does everything that Office 2007 does. And it's completely free. Get it: www.openoffice.org
