Hey all,
I did a little searching but to no avail. I have always been under the impression you need a specific type of processor and mobo to use a 64 bit OS. I'm selling my aluminum macbook today because I just can't deal with not being compatible with games and other software without booting a separate OS. So now I am in the market for a new laptop that is comparable and I have picked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220391 . It has 4GB of ram and a 1GB video card so obviously Vista 32 is not going to utilize all the ram. Can I upgrade to Vista 64 with no issues? The processor and mobo are 64 bit compatible according to customer reviews but I don't see that in the specs.
Thank you guys in advance, happy to find this website!

you could've just installed vista on the macbook and only boot to vista. but yes, core2duo all can handle 64bit afaik.

ok thanks alot!!

even a pentium dual core can run 64 bit.

Even an athlon-64 can run 64 bit.
So could some pentium 4s and also pentium Ds.
As far as upgrading to 64 bit, just make sure the drivers for your laptop are available in 64 bit and all should be well. -
Vista x32 can technically use 4gb but only about 3.6gb is being reported (on some systems, others 3.4gb). Vista x64 can recognize >4gb but make sure all the programs are compatible. The one problem might be the fingerprint reader program, make sure that one can run in 64bit. The rest are being used in the background. The specs are great and the price can't be beat. Wish you well on your choice.
Is this laptop compatible with Vista 64-bit?
