So in Win 7, I used to hear myself clearly on the mic. I also plug in other mic devices in the mic jack to hear myself better.
After installing windows 10, strange things happened to my mic input.
In my recording devices, my built-in Mic is enabled and the bar shows it does pick up sounds, but I can hardly hear it (only when I tap the mic do I hear something, but nothing else). I also tried using another mic and inserted it into the mic jack. It ended up acting like a speaker instead so I can't hear anything from my laptop speakers.
Is there a way to fix this? I never encountered this issue before and would love to learn how to fix this.

Usually this is a gain issue.

that is exactly like my mic setup....so...err...anything else? -
I tested the mic and it sounds very distorted...only the loudest sound can be heard

You tried the boost and no go?
Edit; if the boost is not helping and you are getting distortion you most likely have clipping from boost and the light sounds are from crossover. This means the setup is not to have the mic going live through the sound card. This is a driver issue, but there may be settings to alow it. -

By default the mic does not output to the system, I think through the mixer you can enable it but not too sure (no mic here). Stereo mix may be of help too.
Edit; did you also try listen to this device as well? -
-
you click listen to and then apply? without apply it is a no go, remember there may be two mics too, your internal and the other. Your external mic may be controlled by stereo mix.

You actually may ned to use the stereo mix to hear the mic. It looks like they use that for the aux line in and may also use it for the aux mic in as well.
Edit; Maybe,

Okay I may have found the issue that I haven't solved yet. I uninstalled Realtek and all of a sudden the mic worked. I reinstalled it and the mic was working including the jack. However, If I connect my headphones (Logitech G430) the mic will return to its old issue again and I am forced to remove and reinstall realtek again. thats quite unusual.

do you have Realtek for Windows 8.1 or better?

I installed a windows 10 version and didn't fix well...I decided to rollback to my original driver (windows 7 version) and....surprisingly it fixed it...so my issue is done.
(I guess there are some drivers windows 10 shouldn't touch) -
The problem may be on the next boot it will want to update the drivers again.
