So I just received a new laptop yesterday (Lenovo T440s, Win 8.1 Pro, Intel 7260AC card) and I'm having some problems getting internet access. When I connect to my home network I seem to have no problems (granted, I've done this twice so far). But, I went to work today and ran into an odd problem. I selected the guest network (similar to what you see at hotels, etc.), put in the password, and opened IE (or it opened for me, I don't recall). I was directed to a webpage where I had to click a button to accept their terms and conditions for using the network (yes, I will not do nefarious acts on your network, steal the firstborn, etc.). This is the typical process, and worked with my Win 7 laptop and on my cellphone. I was then able to load one webpage, and then lost the connection. (Instead of being "connected" I was "limited". The Network and Sharing Center noted that I was connected to the network, but had no internet access). If I toggled the wifi off and then back on I would typically have access for a couple minutes (if that) before I would lose it again. The longest I had a connection was for about 5-10 minutes while I downloaded Adobe Reader.
Later in the day I finally figured out how to delete the saved connection (using some command in the command line interface, though I'm probably describing that wrong), and tried redoing it. Selected the network, put in the password. Opened up IE, and it loaded one page, then lost the internet connection again. Interestingly enough, on this try I never was asked if I wanted to hand over my firstborn (or whatever that legalese is) to gain access to the internet.
My guess is that I'm having issues of some sort with the legalese acceptance process. I know in Windows Phone 8 update they are going to have some way it automatically does this for you. Does Window 8.1 already have this, and something is broken with this process? Is this some kind of security setting/antivirus/firewall thing that is interfering? (In the morning I had Norton turned on. Deleted it, and turned on Windows Defender. No adjustment to the settings after that. I know Windows Defender was what was on for the second attempt). Any other ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
