With my Vaio F right now I am having an issue with video with pretty much any video or dvd with either WMP, or with the supplied WinDVD. What is odd this issue didn't occur yesterday with the same video file. I uninstalled WMP, restarted the computer and then had WMP installed again, but no dice there. I did a google search, but I didn't get a working answer. I haven't tired any other media player, except for divx, but that gave me a codec error.
I haven't updated, or installed anything new within that time, nor uninstalled anything, besides the aforementioned WMP. I'd rather not reinstall Win7, nor would I right now want to use a different media player. So, any ideas? Thanks

Have you tried with a codec pack?
I recommend you this:
Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
I play everything with it, but before I would recommend to unistall every codecs you have installed (windows media player classic is included).
It also check automatically for errors with other codecs in your OS and fix it. -
I have that installed on my TT right now, so I am familiar with that codec package. However, I am not seeing how that would really fix the issue at seeing as the applications crash when I try to play any video files(WMP and WinDVD open up fine, but playing back files is where it crashes at). It was fine yesterday, but no dice today, and I don't have any codecs(beside divx) installed.

Normally K-lite fixes broken registry keys when you install it.
So what I did in the past when I had this kind of issues was:
1 Unistall K-Lite and every codec installed (in your case I would unistall also WinDVD)
2 Boot in safe mode
3 Clean with your favourite program the registry, to fix any errors and issue (possibly a good one who can scan the registry deeply)
4 Reboot normally and reinstall everything
I always clean the registry when I have errors, then everything come back to normal, but again is just my personal experience and opinion, hope it could help. -
Any chance that you recently installed Forceware 275.33? If so, try install an older graphics driver.

I like CCCP way more than K-Lite
Also try a different player all together programs like VLC are self contained and can play a DVD without any codec pack support.
If you do install CCCP (uninstall K-Lite first) it comes with MPC and that by far is my favorite player and it handles DVD's great as well. -
cheers ... -

Turns out it was a driver issue. I guess when I installed the latest nvidia drivers the other week it now started to cause some issue. Instead I just installed the drivers listed on the Vaio F page and videos are working fine(haven't drive dvd/bd yet).
