Okay. I did my clean install for Windows 7, installed all of my drivers. Everything was working smoothly. On the Toshiba site, there's no WIndows 7 camera application download listed for my laptop. So naturally I just downloaded the Vista counterpart, what I'd been using previously. Everytime I start my computer I get the error message: webcam driver open fail. please restart camera or computer." And I can't access the setting from my tray bar or anything, can't take pictures. Because I couldn't find an update for the "Chicony USB 2.0 Webcam" webcam software that I'd been using, which was called "Camera Assistant Software" I went and downloaded another computer's webcam application, for a newer Toshiba laptop, a friend of mine's model. . So I downloaded the vista version for my friend's computer, which allows me to take pictures and videos and edit the brightness, saturation, etc.
Night mode works in the application, however, not in any other programs. This is a frustrating issue. I've looked all over the Toshiba forums and I can't find a solution yet. Halp? x]
Edit: My reasoning for this might sound a bit..odd, but you'd understand my issue if you used your webcam as frequently as I do in programs that aren't the webcam software. No matter what, the image in other programs is grainy and dark and hard to see.

My friend was having trouble with this certain webcam. A short search landed me on a Microsoft forum, and it suggested, this.
Go to Device Manager -> Right click on web cam -> Uninstall -> Check to delete drivers. Then reinstall the drivers from Windows Update.
However, this didn't work for him, instead when it came to reinstalling the drivers, he just used the Vista drivers that came on the CD with his notebook. If you can find some Vista drivers, could try doing this route, uninstall and delete the drivers, then reinstall Vista drivers, and see if that works. -

Okay, I went into the Device Manager. I went to browse my computer for software, and it still only showed "USB device" or whatever it was called. Something like that. BUT. I curiously unchecked the option to show all compatible hardware. I ignored the warning and found Chicony on the list of companies. The webcam software "Chicony USB 2.0" WAS on the list.
Then, I restarted my computer. I had to uninstall all of the attempted programs that I tried using to get my webcam to work as well, and redownloaded and installed the vista driver for my webcam.
AND IT WORKED WHEN I RESTARTED =D -
*revives thread*
Well this is awkward >.> So I had to reformat my laptop last night, and my webcam isn't working again.. I tried what I did last time, but nothing's working :[ I was able to start my webcam in msn but I can't in the program once again -.- And if I uninstall the Chicony USB 2.0 driver that is displayed as installed under imaging software in the display manager.. once I restart my computer it reinstalls it on it's own. Awesome, right?
Any solutions? Is there a solution since I last posted here? -

I went into the device manager. What was bothering me was that I wasn't getting a warning for choosing a different driver for my webcam when I clicked "Let me choose from a list". So Instead I went to have disk, but rather than use a disk I browsed to the program files section to where the folder for the Camera Assistant Software was. There was a folder called driver, within that was a 32 and a 64 folder. I went to 32, installed that, and it worked xD Wow. this laptop. isss ridiculous
