Vista SP2 will be publicly available in Q2 2009 (starts today).

I guess that it will be publicly out on the 5th alongside with Windows 7 RC. -

Well I got tired of waiting for individual standalone installers for SP2 to show up. So I downloaded the only SP2 file still on the MSDN site. That was the 1.3 gig ISO that said it was for 32 bit, 64 bit and Server 3008 versions. Well, lo and behold once I burned the ISO to a DVD, what did I find but three separate standalone installer. Now why the HELL did Microsoft in its infinite wisdom choose to effectively triple the bandwidth requirements for getting this out in the field. Wouldn't three separate files make more sense???
Gary
P.S. I'll be installing latter this evening and will report back. -
Lucky you.
The MSDN Academic Alliance still doesn't show it -
I am uploading 64-bit SP2 to filefront now.
Mod Note: Only provide Microsoft or MS approved download link. -

As promised, I am back after installing the 32 bit standalone of SP2. Went just fine. Don't see anything that strikes me as significantly different, yet.

I installed SP2 this morning, vista takes a bit longer to boot but once it does everything runs smoothly. I am a bit surprised that it only needed one reboot during the install, I was expecting atleast 2 but nevertheless it is working as expected.

Installed it last night, really see why there was no hype surrounding this SP. Doesn't really feel any different, the only problem I have right now is there aren't any patched theme files for this yet, lol. Wasn't there suppose to be some new wifi menu or something? I don't see anything different at all.

Thanks Gary that thought never crossed my mind.
Anyway I do have one thing to report since installing SP2. Windows Live Messenger didn't work afterwords, I tried to launch it a few times and nothing would happen. So I just ran the web installer again and it said messenger and some other windows live components had to be updated so I let it run. This was strange seeing as I already had the latest version of these programs, perhaps SP2 brings some new updates to windows live services. This is the only issues I have had since installing the service pack so far. -
How come I cannot see the link to get SP2 anywhere?
Or may be I am not seeing in the correct place? :O boh.. may be I'll just wait for windows update to do its job?!!
-
And everything related to SP2 has been taken off Technet and MSDN. Someone confirm? -
"Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 for all editions (x86, x64, i64) - DVD (English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish)" -
Any rough estimates on when the SP2 will officially be available to non MSDN and Technet subscribers?

^^^ prob another month or two from what i have been reading

I installed SP2 (x86) RTM on one of my Dell laptops. To those who've installed it and noticed very little has changed well there is a reason for that.
As Microsoft stated earlier, SP2 is just a few tweaks with all the previous fixes. To prove that, I did a fresh install and first installed SP1 followed by SP2. When I went to WU the only two downloads available for me was my nvidia video card driver and the latest W Defender update.
Search 4.0 as well as .NET 3.5 SP1 were not on the list. So this tell me SP2 took care of all of that. The OS feels no different with SP2. -

Did it fix the annoying habit of Windows Vista where it forgets the folder settings?
-

My understanding is that this randomness is also what has led to the lack of a fix. Apparently from what I have read elsewhere, no one at Microsoft was able to reliably reproduce this issue making it tough to code a fix for it. They weren't saying it was not a problem, only that they could not make it happen at will, and that make is it tough to test any fixes.

Downloading a free software patch is illegal?
-
It is legally problematic if the provider is not licensed to supply the software.

I was reading the thread and then saw a picture of Kate Beckinsale. Now I lost track of what the thread was about.......
