I thought that Microsoft said it would be delayed to at least 2007 because of security bugs that needed to be sorted. If they can get this out for November 30, then that'll be pretty good. Santa Rosa is expected to appear near around Vista's release. Intel better had get moving.

I think only corporate customers will get their hands on Vista in November. Us peons will have to wait until next January before we can pop to the shops to pick up a copy.

"That said, the general consumer versions of Vista are still planned for a January 2007 release, with the rumoured date of January 30 said to be on the verge of confirmation over the next few days." So we won't see it until January.

No, I'd imagine you'll be able to buy new PCs and laptops with Vista installed from December onwards, but not for general release until next year. It makes sense, people like Dell and HP have been counting on Vista released this year to help end of year sales and profits, obviously they come first. In a way it could be good for us consumers, as by the time Vista does get released it will already have been on beta (Snigger!) with new customers for a few months, so we should have lots of nice updates and security fixes by the time we get it.

So for all the people who have bought notebooks in the last week and qualify for the Vista Express upgrade program, do you think they'll be getting their disks in december 06 or not until 07?

I'm buying a notebook soon. Though isn't upgrading to vista a bit of a bad idea for notebooks? I've read that vista will most likely kills your battery life because of the huge amount of resources and power it requires? i know you could turn aero off and stuff...but that seems to be one of the main major changes with vista. If i eventually found proper drivers and hardware support for linux, id most likely use that (mmmm XGL soo pretty). Then just dual boot with XP for games :)

When i built my laptop i had 3 options for OS:

    Windows XP home
    Windows XP Prof.
Windows XP Prof with Vista express upgrade program.

    I pick number 3!
