For some reason, my hotkey (FN + F12) for skipping to the next song only works when Itunes is my active window.

This is distracting when i want to skip without alt tabbing out of my current active window pane(s).

Is there any way to fix this?

WaterWizard, When you press Fn F12 does it perfrom a different function if ITunes is not active?
Does your laptop have other keyboard shortcut software, such as ASUS ATK that allows fn - f1 thru f12 to work regardless of what is active?
Just to test f12 - open a pic with paint, press f12, if it works you should see the save as dialog pop up.
    Hope this help, J

No - I don't have any keyboard shortcut software enabled for the F1-12 keys. They are set as default layout. FN + F12 doesn't do anything unless I have the music player selected.

Yes, pressing f12 with Paint open will launch the save as prompt.

I found a 3rd party program that will allow media keys to work with iTunes without it being the active window here: hktunes - Global Hotkeys for iTunes - Google Project Hosting

However, I must remember to launch it everytime I launch iTunes, so it's only a temporary fix.

Add the program to your startup menu under "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"
