I have ordered for DELL XPS 1330 in Japan.
I would like to update the Japanese OS to English OS.
Can I update the OS without voiding the warranty?
Is it possible to use the same key given in the Notebook while updating the OS to English.
    Thanks in advance.

Chaning your OS will have no impact on your warranty.

Yup no impact on warrenty but why? I use japanese OS and I cant read most kanji. But unlike american/canadian windows os japanese os can run software regardless of language.

Thought Id also chuck in a warning that MANY japanese sites will block a english os.

Does it mean that reinstalling with English Windows using Japanese OS key is possible :p , if so, does it have to be a OEM version ?

its worth a shot i believe it does have to be oem version. I have had success and failure with this so do it at your own wish BUT JAPANESE>ENGLISH OS

KarenA should be under your notebook a sticker BUT do this at your own risk it does not always work. Should find a OEM verson of the disk I believe

    SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM

The first one is voatK tools for Vista-- an amazing little program

They are all great tools and will retrieve your key from your Vista installation ;)

    karen,

what you got is probably the original oem key that they use to preinstall vista on all pc's.....

if you can, get an oem re-installation disk, or d/l off the internet

then chk out orev's thread in the HP forum for clean install guide using his ABR tool....clean install guide

I'm sorry :(, but I don't even have an idea what exactly is OEM re-installation disk... Is it the same as a Vista installation DVD or? I don't have any DVD coming with my Vaio...

And actually, which one is my Vista key?

    Thanks for the information.
Could you explain me brief what type of failures you have faced when you tried to change the Japanese to English OS ? Can those failures had been overcome with re-installation.
BTW, I do not have a Vista home premium OEM (DELL) English version, where can I get that ? I found few links in net but, I am not sure how much they will be helpful.

Im not sure where you can get a disk someone here should be able to help you  . But when I hit problems it is usually BODs. and ended up going back to japanese. If you live in japan though or require acess to anything japanese avoid the english os.

Can the option of always open non-unicode program in Japanese resolve these problems though? I've used these options and so far hasn't have any problems except that, my KeePass database description (in Japanese) suddenly change into ??????????? after I've spent a long time build it, which is why I'm just opting to change my English OS to Japanese OS... Another problem is my f2k doesn't save my tag correctly a lot of times.

Can I use Japanese Vista OS retail disk to install?
I am using Vista Business, which means I have to find Vista Business disk? Or any Vista disk is okay?

    Thanks for the quick one.

I accept your suggestion to retain the Japanese OS. But my wife cannot read Japanese, so I would like to have a dual boot mode , One drive with Japanese OS(OEM) and the other drive with English OS (OEM). :D

Is it possible to have 2 OS as I mentioned above with the same Key provided in the Notebook?

Hope I am not sounding weird.
