It's been a while since I've done any serious site development. I want to put together a basic site for a small business I plan on starting. I don't want to spend a lot of time, but do have a decent amount of content to add, and add on a fairly regular basis, mainly basic articles with a few photos. But also need emailer, store front, etc.
I know there's a lot of WYSIWYG apps out there, but I don't want to regret using it later. Eons ago I used Frontpage and regretted it completely as I learned how to properly use HTML and CSS.
I used Joomla in the past but never gave it its full run through. I just don't want to have to spend dozens of hours figuring out how something works, I just don't have that kind of time. After looking at my options, I think it's the best but want some other input if possible.
Thanks.

I've never used Joomla myself, but I currently use Wordpress for a small business I just started. It works for what I need it to, and still has plenty of room to work with. I've only worked on it for a few hours, but have most of my content up, and nearly ready to go.
The great part about Wordpress is how established it is, and the amount of plug-ins available. Why spend all your time coding, when a plug-in is available and does what you need it to?
Mine is so low maintenance that I get to focus on the things I'm better at, rather than fiddle with a website all the time. For reference, the site is ( http://www.homeviewok.com). That should give an idea of things I've got running on there. If you want a list of the plug ins I'm using, and for what reasons, I'd be happy to detail it all out as well. -
Hmm, you might want to give wordpress a try ht. Joomla is friendly but if you want to customize things it can be a little time consuming. Like blake said, wordpress has literally thousands of plugins and themes and junk... I'm guessing you're hosting this at home on an old comp-turned webserver (like I do
)?
Wordpress is easy enough to set up, but be advised I've run into issues of being unable to install or update plugins/themes due to who knows what. Ubuntu fought me tooth and nail over it and I gave up and deployed Debian, which only wants the proper permissions to update stuff and happily chugs along.
@blake, your link is dead. -
Ooh. Good catch. Thanks hakira. Fixed!

I was going to host it on an actual web server. Not that expensive, and Comcast doesn't like hosting servers at home. I don't expect much traffic, but still the traffic I do get might prompt them to investigate.

Decide on a platform HT? I'm interested to see your idea!

No, haven't had a chance to work on it yet. Will let you know when it gets up and running (probably be a few weeks).
Joomla best for quick site?
