not sure if this is a software problem (Windows 7) or a hardware (touchpad) problem. on my old laptop, i never had this problem; only with my new laptop with Windows 7 did i notice it. i originally thought it might be a touchpad problem, but i downloaded the latest synaptics driver, and it hasn't really fixed the issue. basically when i'm in a text editor (like MS Word, or in Thunderbird, or some other apps; even typing this thread, it happens), the cursor seems to jump to another position, and not only that it seems to adjust the view (kinda like an automatic scrolling) sometimes. This can be very irritating. there seems to be quite a few posts on the web (search for 'jumping cursor') that suggests that more a few people have similar problems, but opinions on a fix seems conflicted. thought i'd see whether the knowledgable crowd on NBR have experienced it also and might have found a definitive solution, or definitive diagnosis (software or hardware). if it is a 'feature', is there a way to turn it off?

Synaptics has a flock of 'features' that I have turned off. I did have similar issues before changing these settings (see atttached) as well a BIOS update (ASUS G73)
It would help to know what model you have also
, if the settings changes do not help.

Well, don't know if you already fixed this, but for me the solution was this:

1-Find the appropriate driver for your touchpad and download it. (It should be in the manufacturer's website)
2-Uninstall the PS2 mouse driver, BUT DON'T REBOOT!
3-Install the proprietary driver. And reboot.
After this, you should have the touchpad's software, and the problem should be gone. (Anyway, if you have an external mouse, you can use that software to disable the touchpad)

    and I founded it here:
