Hi all I just installed Windows 7 Proffesional, which I obtained through MSDNAA so far so good. Just a few questions.
1. My CPU is running quite hard, and is staying over 50% much more than normal. Is that OK for a fresh install? I sort of figure its archiving, or mapping the drive or something.
2. Do I need to install Intel Matrix Storage drivers or anything? If so can you provide a link? I have W7 Home Proffesional 64bit Installed.
In device manager my Disk Drive is labeled at ST9200420AS ATA Device... is that right?
Thanks.
3. It looks like all my drivers installed nicely, except in device manager I see "Other devices' within that there are 3 devices with yellow alerts. They are:
PCI Flash Memory
PCI Flash Memory
USB2.0
4. Where is Windows Mail?
5. Do I need the Synaptics Touchpad driver? My Touchpad is working but I know I used to have it... what does it do?CAn you link>
Do I need RealTek HD Audio drivers? My sound is working but I used to have that too? Can you link?
Please advise? Windows update does not find them drivers.
Thanks.

Open up Task Manager and sort the processes by increasing to decreasing CPU time by clicking on the "CPU" column. Which process(es) is consuming the resources?
If the device is listed as an ATA (aka, IDE) device, then you need to enable SATA mode for the hard disk via your computer's BIOS. If it is already set as SATA in the BIOS, then you should go ahead and install Intel's storage drivers, as your HD will then be properly recognized and, like in my case, you will be able to use more advanced functionalities for improving drive performance (right click drive after installing driver > Properties > Policies tab > enable write caching).
Do you have Intel Turbo memory installed on your system?
WRT the USB2.0 device, simply check that all your USB ports function; otherwise, it isn't a matter of concern. -
How do I change this in BIOS? What is the proceedure? If its already set to SATA where do I get the intel matrix drivers for 64bit win 7, can you provide a link please?
I do not have Intel Turbo Memory. -
When the computer boots up, you'll get the manufacturer's splash screen along with instructions for which F keys to hit for the BIOS setup page (ex, F10 = Setup). It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, but you should be able to figure that part out. From thereonin, you can browse around; most laptops today have either an AHCI or SATA setting for the hard disk. Obviously, you want the latter.
For the Intel Matrix Storage Driver:

ALright I Just went into BIOS this is what I saw.
I went to Advanced Chipset Control
It had the following
Intel Robson - Disabled
SATA - Device 31, Function 2 Compatible
AHCI Configuration: Disabled
DFOROM(robson) Support: Disabled
It would not allow me to change any of these individually, if I Changed Intel Robson to enable, they would all change to enabled. Does that sound right? -
Leave it the way it is, you have SATA enabled as desired.
-
When I Try to install the intel matrix driver it says
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirments for installing this software. Setup will now exit"
Uh oh?
Although I don't see Win7 Proffesional x64 listed as supported OS??... -
Does your computer actually meet the hardware requirements for that driver version? They are listed in the link I gave you. If not, you could use the driver listed on the manufacturer's webpage. I gave you the latest Intel one because it was more up-to-date.
-
No Idea.... system specs in sig.. does it?
-
the pci flash is prob your card reader and you do not need the matrix driver trust me. achi should imo be enabled though
you do not need the synap driver if you choose not to
yes you need realtek get it here:

I got windows Live mail... how do I pop my gmail account to it? IT was easy enough with outlook express and windows mail but I am having issues with this new system....
THanks.
Zfactor - ACHI should be enabled? why?
I dont need matrix drivers why? -
http://www.intel.com/technology/serialata/ahci.htm
matrix is not ness and win7 has the newest ones built in anyway -
Alright problem is I Can't enable AHCI without those other settings getting set to enable..... and I think it would require me re-install my OS.
Wierd this is I dont even have robson memory so.... -
yeah dont worry for now if you reinstall then use it. but i think your missing drivers are the card reader. and did you get the infared cir driver?
-
Whats the infared CIR driver? Card reader? I dont know....
-
Do I need to install the intel pro-wireless driver from sagernotebooks? Obviously im connected to the net without it...
What about the intergrated LAN/Modem drivers?
What about the webcam driver?
lol I wish I knew what i needed to install. -
Technically, Win7 ISN'T supported. I get the same msg when I use the Win 7 RTM evaluation download. You can just use Compatability Mode and it will fool the program into thinking the WinVer is Vista SP1.
-
It's strange because the drivers installed fine on Windows 7 64-bit for me; it changed the identified device from an ATA device to SATA and enabled the use of some performance features on the drive. I posted a thread detailing the whole process here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=408128 -
The Intel chipset drivers will install without compat mode using the RC.
-
What does that mean? Is that good/bad?
So chipset drivers are auto installed by windows update?
Thanks. -
When I first installed Windows 7 X64 I also noticed that my CPU usage was unnecessarily high, about 50%. It turned out to be Winsat.exe which was a part of the Customer Experience Improvement Program (scheduled) services. Once I had disabled them, everything went back to normal
To disable it do the following:
Start / All Programs / Administrative Tools / Task Scheduler
>> go down into Task Scheduler Library / Microsoft / Windows / Maintenance
>> Right-click on "WinSAT" and choose disable
There were also other unnecessary scheduled tasks that were related to the Customer Experience Improvement Program.
Thanks Microsoft, my experience improved as soon as I disabled those
Just Installed Win7 - Help needed.
