I just got my Sager NP5760 today, and had a question about preventitive/ routine maintenance software that is compatible with Vista.

I am rather well versed with XP and usually formatted and reinstalled a fresh copy every 6 months or so as a means of 'cleanup' just to ensure everything with the OS is in top 'default' condition.

As it is with me being new to Laptops and Vista, does anybody know some good softwares I can use to maintain the OS? Registry cleaners, defragmentation, diagnostics, repair: anything that will keep Vista running as well as possible without re-installing it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'd recommend you stick to your previous method. Reformat every 6 months. Nothing better than starting with a clean slate.

I use Diskeeper 2007 for defrag ($30 USD), and Advanced WindowsCare Personal V2 for a registry cleaner (although it has a bunch more tools and its free). For antivirus there's AVG Free Edition. I can vouch for these three programs, they are Vista compatible and work great.

If you're looking for Diagnostics the latest version of Notebook Hardware Control is Vista compatible and is awesome. If you like OCing Powerstrip works in Vista.

As for Spyware solutions, I'm not to sure about what's out there for Vista.

for me, perfect disk pro for defrag, no registry cleaner... i use ccleaner that is free. For the AV i use McAfee enterprise 8.5i + antispyware (not the crappy desktop version), i had very bad experience with NOD (missed a lot of troyans), very fast and small in memory.
