I thought I did a clean install because I went from 32 bit vista to 64 bit 7, but I still have all my files from when I had vista. From my knowledge I thought you couldn't just upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit. In my hard drive it has "windows.old" file and has all my programs. My main concern here is that the install will be bad or if I could just delete all the "windows.old" files, and the system will be ok.

Right now windows 7 is running and it reads it as 64 bit.

Windows 7 allows you to upgrade form 32-bit to 64-bit
You should run the setup from the disk at boot (and not form windows), and select "Custom install" for a clean install.

Yeah I ran it from boot up, but I didn't click the custom install. Is there really any need to reinstall windows 7 just for the clean install or should I be ok?

Oh nice, so does it let you down grade from 64bit vista to 32bit win7?

I believe an upgrade from a clean system (never infected by a malware/virus/spyware, nor corrupted registry) is just as good as a clean install. I mean upgrading from Vista or Win7 is still using the same great core, so no problem I can see. I mean we are not passing from XP to Vista, where they are like 2 different galaxies.

You can go ahead and delete the windows.old. I deleted all the windows system files from mine and it didn't do anything to my install. I still have some of the other windows.old file just in case I forgot to back up something. The only thing is it's a little scary in that it gives you a lot of warning messages. I'm not sure why they want you to keep the old system files since it takes up a lot of room.
