First, uninstall all your drivers, then let Windows Update do the driver business, WU searches for the correct, working drivers. Secondly, which drivers are you using? Win7 ones? or Vista?

Vista drivers should work in Windows 7. I don't see why it isn't. I'm not exactly sure how, I know with my Dell, all I have to do is go to where the Drivers folder is, and I can uninstall them, maybe another Vaio user can help you out there.

I have not had to install any drivers with Windows 7, Windows Update picked them up at install.

It might be a good idea to force-install the base-level Intel chipset drivers and then let WU find the correct higher-level drivers.

Order of driver install is VERY important on the Sony laptops.
Go to your model page on Sony and download the drivers and place in folders of something so you know what they are when time to install. Some the drivers you’ll need to get from the Vista OS drivers and some are specific for WIN 7.
I have a FW285 (essentially the same model as yours) – Here’s what you’ll need to do:
I hate to say this but almost think with the various things you’ve done you’re almost better starting over and re-installing WIN 7 and the drivers in this order.
    1. Audio Drivers (2 files)
    a. Audio Driver
    b. HDMI Audio Driver
    2. Bluetooth
    3. Chipset (motherboard – use the driver from Vista )
    4. Memory Stick (Vista)
    5. Memory Card Reader (Vista)
    6. Modem
    7. Network Ethernet
    8. Graphics Card (should be one for Win7 on the Sony Site)
    9. Wireless LAN
    10. Sony Shared Library (Vista)(4 files)
    a. Vaio Launcher
    b. Setting Utility Series
    c. Control Center
    d. Function Settings
    11. Notebook Control & Utilities
    12. Notebook Utilities (Vista)
    13. Notebook – Firmware Parser (Windows update will usually find this one

If if tell you to re-start the computer do so - you'll end up doing so about 6 times by the time get thru all the drivers.

This matches what Sony recommends for a clean install - have done it 3 times now with upgrades to my laptop (WIN7, SSD, WIN 7 ULT) - all buttons/functions work just as they should.
    Good luck.
