I don't know if anyone else noticed this (I didn't atleast) and I apologize if people already realize this. Both Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional are the same price for students at 29.99. My thinking is why not go with professional for the same price? More features same price.

I noticed it when I was buying the upgrade. So I'm thinking I might as well buy the pro upgrade. Even if I don't use all of the features, I still have the freedom too without paying a premium.

The big thing with pro is being able to easily connect/authent to active directory domains. A week or so ago I posted a pdf link to the msft win7 product guide which explains the different versions pretty well.

Professional edition main features and differences over Home premium are:
    - XP Mode with XP license for it.
    - Joining a domain
    - Advance backup features
    - Create a system image
    - Windows Games not installed by default (see: "Programs and Features">"Turn Windows features on or off" panel in the control panel, to enable Windows built-in games and game folder.
    - Group Policy Editor (offering you over 1000 account managerial options)
    - Location aware printing. You can have your default printer change depending on which wireless or wired network you are connected too.

    Very simple!
1- Open "Devices and Printers" from the start menu black column (there by default, else use the Start menu search to find it)
2- Click once, on a printer.
3- On the light blue shell bar on top of the folder content, and click on "Manage default printer"
    4- Enjoy!

netsetman does this for you. In a busy day I can be switching between as many as 6 different wifi nets. netsetman makes is very easy to change things like printers and network settings with a single click.

I was just reading my student offer for Windows 7 and also noticed that, so i ve a japanese vaio Z and wanted to keep my japanese language but if i apply for premium or pro, i ve to go with a french version...

But if i buy the student offer with professional version, can i go to ultimate through anytime upgrade??
have to pay 29.99 and 80 , cheaper i think?
