I thought this might be of some service to the odd few that are having problems with codecs.

This problem is specific (I believe) to the K-Lite Codec pack. The latest release has given a few people problems with video playback that results in green, or various coloured lines to streak across the screen diagonally.

My solution worked by uninstalling all codecs, rebooting, reinstalling version 2.65f version, then installing version 2.53f right over the installation of 2.65.

This caused the codecs to mix up and only the working codecs to be in use. The audio codecs of the latest release which produced clearer, louder sound remained while the older video codecs remained to give a clear picture.

I have no narrowed down which codecs are giving the problems, but this problem only occurred with certain aspect ratio videos.

I observed this problem while watching Ghost in the Shell episodes.

Any other input would be greatly appreciated. :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

I found an even more specific problem with the latest Mega Codec Pack. After I installed it, I got this bug during video playback where if my volume was below 100%, pausing/unpausing or fast back/forwarding would restore it to 100%. I found it ONLY happening with BSPlayer when using my Audigy2 ZS sound card. Doesn't happen with other players or with my integrated sound device. VERY weird. Uninstalling and reinstalling a previous version didn't seem to help. I guess it corrupted some settings somewhere and I have no idea where. Didn't have time to look properly yet.

Whoa that is a weird problem dr_st. You're using the Mega Codec Pack? You encode videos and stuff? I'd say stick with the K-Lite Codec pack, if you can get it working like I did for the latest release. If you realize problems with new codecs packs, try mixing 'em up with previous installations, as that fixes problems for me.

I know that mixing codec packs can cause problems, but if you're using the same "brand" of codec packs it should be fine.

Did you try out the CoreMediaPlayer as I suggested? That player is awesome trust me give it a go.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I'm using the Mega Codec Pack for the Real Alternative, so I can play RealMedia without RealPlayer. It also comes with BSPlayer and Media Player Classic (and Quicktime Alternative, should I ever need that).

Ooooooooooh kewl I didn't know that. Hrmm maybe I'll give it a go, but I'm happy with my current setup. I don't play realplayer files that often so I'm good :D

    Thanks for the info though~!

    Cheers,
    Mike
