I use keepass on my laptop. I store all my username/passwords for everything on it. Today i noticed when i started keepass... i noticed I could not log into several of my accounts. I had wondered why. Until i took a look and many username/passwords for certain sites are not shown in it. I then looked and see many of my username/passwords... all of these got reverted back to early last year. Not long ago i had changed my passwords for many sites and added other sites and passwords.
So many of my email accounts, i could not log into it because the password thats in the keepass that i copy and paste now... well its the wrong password b/c i had these pw's changed. It wasn't that long ago but it wasn't that recent. I did however have a piece of paper that i wrote many of my username/passwords down in case. However, i didn't do this for every single site.
Does anyone know what happened here and how did this happen? I always used an old version of keepass and everytime keepass starts, it ask if i want to upgrade and i always clicked no. Im not sure but i think there is a small chance i could have clicked yes this time though i dont think this happened.
Can someone tell me how in the world did this happen to my keepass? I also noticed i had 2 keepass. I have one that says keepass1 and keepass2. Keepass2 was the new one where i made changes to it. Does that mean the only way this happened was i opened keepass1... then saved it and overrode keepass2?
My issue is many sites right now i cannot log into it because i dont have the password. And to get that password, i need the email address and a certain few email address, i dont have the password to it.
Does anyone have any tips and know what in the world happened here? Thanks.
I do have keepass saved to a usb drive of mine. However, if i open that one, will it be the updated one or would it show the old one? The thing is i believed its the updated keepass with the updated username/passwords.
I want to make sure i dont open it then somehow it get reverted to the old keepass.
I'm still perplexed how this happened.

The .kdbx file is your keepass database with your passwords. It will save to the last location you opened it from. You would have had to "save as" and overwritten whatever other database you had. The program itself doesn't matter, it's the .kdbx file that matters. I would just keep a single copy of it, whatever is convenient for you, and back it up regularly (in different location than original) so you can revert to it in case this happens again or original goes bad.

I can see where there may be some confusion about KeePass database files. For some reason, that program created two database files with similar names for me. Some times it opens with the window displaying both names and asks which one I want. So if I pick the old one by accident, it will use the old passwords. Maybe that is what actually happened with the first poster.

So does that mean i can get back my up to date keepass? Or right now i cannot? There is 2 keepass in my computer... called keepass1 and keepass2. I assume thats what i named it. Both however when i open each of them up individually, its the same thing... it goes back to a long time ago where many of my new username/accts are shown not.

To repeat what HTWingNut had already tried to explain to you, your data (meaning your user-ids and passwords and such) are in a database (a file with the ending ".kdbx") that you have created in KeePass. These data are completely separate from the application files for the program, KeePass. So, what you are looking for is not "my up to data keepass", what you are looking for is the newest database file.
What you have done is to save different versions of your data in different locations. You need to figure out where you have saved the newest version. Chances are that, unless you have deleted that database yourself, the data are still there. You can try to use the Search functionality of your OS to find all kdbx files on your computer. You didn't tell us what version of Windows you're using; if you do, someone may be willing to give you click-by-click instructions, which seems to be what you need. Of course, it's possible from what you say above that the database you're looking for is on some USB drive, which you may have lost, misplaced, whatever. In that case there's nothing anyone can do to help you. See the first remark in my response.
P.S.: And, no, nothing gets mysteriously "somehow reverted to the old keepass". Everything that happened is due to actions you have taken.Peon, HTWingNut and alexhawker like this. -

Your keypass will open the database it is linked to regardless if you have KP1 or KP2. The database is linked to both from what it sounds like. I use keypass and only have one keypass installed doing what your doing is what caused your problem. Keypass will revert back to earlier settings if they were saved. If your having problem with Keypass usage you should contact Keypass creators and ask them for more help as they will know more since that is their program.
