I ordered an XPSM140 which comes with the XP Media Center. Should get it next week. If I already own a copy of XP Pro would it be better to install my XP Pro? Is XP Media Center afford the same security and options as XP Media Center? Anyone ditch their XP Media Center and install XP Pro?

    Thanks, Septor

Media Center is great if you're going to...well...take advantage of multimedia options. :D It's good for things like watching TV on the lappy, etc. Not essential, but a lot easier. It's built on XP Home, though, so to get the added network features, you'll want to install XP Pro.

The early versions of media center were built on home the newer ones are built on XP pro just without being able to logon to a domain. everything else is like pro.

Thanks for the reply, Ala. I know I gain a few network items with XP pro. But if I install XP Pro, wiping out XP Media Center, do I lose any media functions that I could only have/enjoy through XP Media center? I am leaning toward just going with the standard XP Pro. Thanks for the advice.

I'd go with XP Pro, but that's me who needs to logon to domains ;)

XP Media Center 2005 is basically XP Pro without the ability to join domains. If you need domain support that much, then use XP Pro, otherwise Media Center will do just about everything you want it to.
