I use keepass to store all my passwords. I had saved a copy of it in my usb stick as backup. I'm not 100 percent sure if i did this to my external hard drive. But im close to 100 percent i did with my usb stick.

My laptop shut down on me and no longer works. I went to computer repair shop and they said my laptop went bad. But the hard drive should be fine and they tell me its fine. I asked them if they could copy files from my hard drive which is an ssd in the laptop that doesn't work anymore into my external hard drive. I mentioned copy my folder, my documents when they asked what.

Im using a desktop now because my laptop went bad and i have to get a new one. I put my usb drive into my desktop and there is no keepass file. I have no idea how this is possible. Im close to 100 percent sure its there as i always saved a copy of it there. Then i went and connected my external hard drive to my desktop. The only keepass i see is keepass 2 but this file was created over 2 years ago. The up to date keepass is not there. I believe i had 2 copies of it on my laptop before laptop went bad.

I still have the ssd hard drive. Did that meant he override my new keepass and put it in the old one when copying all these files? I usually go to keepass on my laptop but clicking the start and typing kee then see it then click on it, then put my master password and then open the file. Does anyone here have any recommendations on what i can do now? I am very upset because all my passwords for all the sites i use is on keepass. I do have passwords for accounts that i wrote on paper, but that is not many. Tons of my other accounts i have no idea what the password is. I have 0 clue why there is no keepass file on my usb which should be there 100 percent.

Could i bring it to another repair shop and give them my ssd hard drive and then they check to see if my old keepass file is still there? If so, how can they do any checking? Could they just put my ssd into a thing then connect it to a computer and see all the files available? I heard its some internal usb? I have no idea what to do now because i dont have keepass at all on my usb or the external hard drive. I have no idea what im suppose to do now. I know everyone mentioned to use keepass for passwords but what if your backups no longer there or they got corrupted? I had thought if my laptop ever went bad... which i did, well i have a backup of it on my usb stick.

Did you confirm your USB drive has the keepass data file on there? I use keepass - one main on the desktop and a USB portable and I sync them from time to time and have no problem using the portable version offsite. If the keepass data is safe if you sync both it will update to the latest saved data or most recent one updating the info. But if this doesn't happen then your keepass data is corrupted. They can reinstall keepass but not the data file what you want to do is verify the USB has a keepass data file if not then your in trouble. Since we can't see how your keepass is setup what you need to do is go to the shop and show them and find out what is going on now.

I checked my usb drive when opening it. There is no keepass file there which i do not know how it possible. When my computer shut down while using it, my usb was connected to it. However, that should have zero effect since all my other files are there. I had kept a copy of it in my usb for sure.

As of now, i have a laptop that no longer works. I do have the ssd hard drive for it out already thus they took it out. This is from another computer shop though. I asked them to copy my download and document folder when they asked what files i want to transfer to external hard drive. So when looking through external hard drive, i do see a keepass file but the date was a while back and the name of it looks like when i first created it and not updated. I believe i had 2 keepass files on my hard drive, one updated and one that is from a way back. The thing is could they have deleted the new one and kept the old one?

could they connect my ssd hard drive which has all my files and i could check to see if that file is still there? Then have them connect it to my external hard drive? is there any info i can give you where you could tell me about my keepass setup? I will be going there no matter what.

Hey there, there is a file called database1.kdbx in my usb. Its about 22 kb and looking from the date of it, that is the one. However, it doesn't show the keepass logo and when clicked on it, it says cannot open file and say you need to use service from select program or select a program from a list of installed programs to open up the file.

Does that mean my keepass file is safe? Do i need to download keepass on my computer, then when i do, this filewill then work and the logo will show the keepass logo?

    Thanks.

Keepass will read older file unless it is corrupted then it might. If you copy that file to a installed keepass 3.x or newer it should be able to open and read it. Did you try that yet? If there is no keepass data file on your USB then there is not much that can be done. The old drive can you use a USB to HDD/SSD adapter to look at the drive to see if the old keepass data is there? If everything is done and there is no backup on the USB drive then there not much you can do but use the most recent keepass backup file. I keep two copy one on my main system and the backup and file to sync on my USB drive but that also has a exc keepass version that also access that same keepass data folder. That is how I backup and insure the keepass data is working and not corrupted. But you might have to ask the computer shop to look into this and see what happened. But from what your describing the keepass didn't save it to the USB drive but back onto the drive in another location so nothing went to the USB drive for backup.

hey. I was able to open the file. Downloaded keepass 2.x and then it does show up on my desktop now. thus it was in my usb file.

Can you tell me exactly how to input this dataabase1.kdbx into my iphone 4s? I have mini keepass on my iphone but it hasn't been updated in so long. Last time i tried to do it but i had issues and could never get the updated keepass on my iphone. Thus i would have another keepass back on my phone.

    Thanks.

This isn't a easy process. I have keepass on my phone but you need a sync software to load it into the smart phone app to sync.
I have Keepass and dropbox and use dropbox to sync to the smartphone and then use the keepass app to open the dropbox sync version to sync to keepass folder and then open it that way. That is the only way I know of trying directly will not work.
