My buddy claims that a lot of companies and businesses run 64-bit, but I find that hard to believe. Is my buddies claim false? So what big name companies run 64-bit windows that you all are aware of?

Most businesses run Windows XP Professional 32 bit, Server 2003, and Office 2003 (some newer).

I can only speculate, but it seems that most businesses wouldn't need 64-bit computing unless they had servers that required more than 4GB of RAM. I'm not sure how common this requirement is to begin with.

Any server that has more than 4GB will be running a 64-bit OS. Most businesses that have some sort of technical inclination will have at least one of these in my experience (and probably been running it since the 90s or after 2K depending on company size). However, workstations don't necessarily need to be 64-bit.

Something else to remember is, that on the OS side, Vista is the first proper 64Bit OS.
XP was more an experimental/testing 64Bit OS.
(Note: Please note, I am not referring to Servers here!) -
AGREED--but going forward, most companies will go with 64-bit just because there is no reason NOT TO at this point.

An article comparing 32-bit to 64-bit Windows 7 for business use:

Kinda off subject but curious to know...
