Thank you! I had downloaded the 32bit version by accident when I bought it online for $30, and now I can get Home Premium 64bit instead of waiting for Support to return my email.
-
I am trying to get my girlfriend introduced to Windows 7. If I create an ISO from the files above (she will be using x86) would she be able to use it without a key for a little. If not, are there any current trials out there?
-
She would be able to use it for 30 days without a key.
-
does this work for upgrade? i dont wana clean install
-
Can someone confirm what is the 64 bit version?? Ultimate, Professional? :S
-
I am curious about the 64bit's of Windows 7 you posted here.
I hope it is Ultimate version. LOL.
EDIT: FOUND, IT IS WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL FOR 64BIT's.
However, there's some tricks to unlock every version of Windows 7 to be installed. -
i could be wrong but arent they all the same? the version depends on the key you put in...
-
However, in some cases, there's a file inside named ei.cfg limits the version installation to only allow 1 version.
Delete or modify the ei.cfg will allow us to install any version of Windows 7.
So, you got 50% correct and 50% wrong. -
So say you purchased a Home Premium Key, could you install Ultimate using the same key?
Thanks,
Benjamin -
The delete of ei.cfg allows you to choose "Version" of Windows 7 you want to install. However, the activation(license key) for the specific Windows 7 Version you choose is still needed. If not, it will be only 30day-trial mode.
The only advantage of hacking ei.cfg is to make the Windows 7 of a specific version into Windows 7 All-In-One Package.
Actually, ei.cfg is made by Microsoft to limit the clients from simply install the version of Windows which they're not purchased.
Example:
A user bought a Windows 7 Professional. But when install, the user choose Windows 7 Ultimate. After that, the user can't activate the Windows using the Professional License Key. Then, the user call Microsoft and complain about it. Microsoft will need to explain everything again and again.
So, to avoid this thing from happen, they put the ei.cfg inside. -
But if I bought 32-bit Home Premium, could I install 64-bit Home Premium on the same PC with the same key?
Thanks -
However, you are not allow to have 2 machines with similar License Key. -
-
ok, so how to merge them?
-
Run the installer, and it will combine them into a folder called "expandedSetup", then use this guide to make an iso: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...rom-exe-plus-setup1-box-and-setup2-box-files/
-
thanks...i'm downloading the 64 bit version right now...btw, does 64 run faster than 32 bit? also are there lots of program incompatibility??
-
Actually, very easy.
Short and simplified solution:
1.) Put all the downloaded file into a Folder.
2.) Right Click and select Properties on each of them. Select Unblock(General Tab) for each of them.
3.) Run the Windows 7-HP-Retail-en-us-x86.exe or Windows 7-HP-Retail-en-us-x64.exe or Windows 7-P-Retail-en-us-x86.exe or Windows 7-P-Retail-en-us-x64.exe as administrator. It will begin to extract the Windows 7 Installation files from the setup1.box and setup2.box.
4.) You will see expandedSetup folder after the extraction. Delete the 3 files because you're not using them anymore(they're just like unrar/unzip something, which you will delete the rar/zip file after extracting the content).
5.) All the Windows 7 Installation files are inside expandedSetup folder.
6.) You can either do a CD image and burn them into a Disc or you can make a bootable USB flash drive and copy the file into the USB flash drive. Both method works.
Delete the ei.cfg inside of the sources folder of the expandedSetup will allow you to choose which Windows 7 version to install.
To do a bootable USB Flash Drive(save the Disc Money, since USB flash drive can be re-use again and again), here is the guide,

Extracting the setup1 and setup2 boxes for Win7 64-bit on my Vista 32-bit caused the "Unloading the box" problem as soon as the extraction was complete. The expandedSetup folder was created fine though. Is the extraction really complete or are there some parts missing?

. I'm using Vista 32-bit.
I should also mention that even without the "Unblock" button, I managed to extract the 32-bit version of Windows 7 installation files just fine. No error, no hiccups, no anything. The creation of the ISO also went smoothly.
According to this page on MyDigitalLife http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/10/23/workaround-to-fix-windows-7-unable-to-create-or-save-new-files-in-the-folder-error-when-unloading-box/, if I read it correctly enough, the workaround is to create the ISO from the created expandedSetup folder, regardless of the error. Can anyone verify this? -
If you have problems, then, maybe you should go to the security tab and change the owner(to you)? After that, only extract. -
Is this the retail version or is it the RTM build 7600? What I mean is this the version you can buy from stores now?
-
RTM is before packaged into Box. While Retail is packaged RTM only.
Windows Update will update your Windows 7 Build. So, you don't need to worry about RTM or Retail. -

Anyone else having trouble getting the setup1.box files?
Both .exe and setup2.box links work just fine but I'm having trouble with the 2GB+ files.
Probably the servers are at max but anyone else in NL or Europe having trouble or is it worldwide? (fyi, happens both in FF and IE, for 32 and 64). -
I have no problem download them this morning(my time zone).
The speed was like 200kbps for me since my internet connection slow.
It takes me 2 hours I think to finish download. By the way, I was using FF 3.5.3 that time.
Now, I am on G.Chrome. Baserk, try G.Chrome? -
Upgrading mine currently --- not clean install. i hope i'll face no problem.
It was weird that I couldn't find ei.cfg when extracting the box on desktop. But when i extract them on computer > C: > downloads , i find the ei.cfg and changed the windows version i wanted.
World of warcraft is just damn slow to install so i chose to just upgrade hehe.
tnx for this thread and op -
Just copy and paste your WoW into non-boot Partition.
So, you don't need to install WoW again. I hope I am right. LOL. Correct me if I am wrong. -
-
use download manager
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
Thanks for this info!
-
I just realized the OP should reflect the fact that you should DEFINITELY use a download manager because otherwise it freezes after 2gbs downloaded
-
anyone know if legit MSDNAA keys will work on this distro?
-
Anyway, thanks for the links, OP. -
-
I updated the OP with instructions on making the iso with no version limitation
-
also, would someone post the MD5/SHA1 hashes for the resulting ISOs (x86 and x64).
thanks -
'WIN_EN_DVD' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Hmmm.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I figured it out. The -lWIN_EN_DVD is a lowercase L, not a |. OP, you might want to make that clear for those of us who aren't savvy in the command prompt, like me. -
Could somebody confirm these MD5 hashes (for the isos) and ill add them to the OP:
64 bit: B48E52B3A5547AF5A126EC40AA4464B2
32 bit: 31E4A43ACC01989585CF034E3B438383 -
-
Edit: Question - Is the issue that I downloaded the 64bit executable but am attempting to run it on 32 bit XP and 32 bit Vista? -
These values are for the English files:
the expandedSetup folder for x64 contains 873 files, 199 folders and is 3.01GB (with the ei.cfg file removed)
the expandedSetup folder for x86 contains 873 files, 200 folders and is 2.34GB (with the ei.cfg file removed) -
-
This is good as I have a slightly older system (motherboard) that really want to test before dropping the cash for the actual disc.
-
I added a little part in the instructions that tells people to check the number of files and folders if they get an error -
-
-
has anyone been successful emailing digital river with the magic words: "64-bit Installation Block" as told to do here:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com...l/thread/e548bb88-838d-461b-a475-cd1bec38f505
digital river customer service seems to take their sweet time getting back. -
