True, the 2GB download problem as mentioned in the thread that I cited only really addresses half of my issue. The strange happenings with the x64 ISO files crashing my internet connection when clicking on those links hasn't been so neatly explained. Obviously I equated the 2GB stall problem and the x64 ISO problem to being from the same source, which indeed may very well be erroneous. However, considering that I have I have tried clicking those links with multiple computers, using multiple browsers, and both wifi and LAN, I am fairly confident about jumping on board with accusations against my modem.
Your suggestion of testing the x64 ISO problem over some other connection is a wise one though. I may have to do that just to be extra sure. Thanks for that.
I'll try to remember to give updates on this issue as things progress.

Problem Resolved:
Well, as indicated previously I sent an e-mail to a Qwest representative through the same channel as the individual on dslreports had ([email protected]) and received some amazingly quick and supportive service.
A knowledgeable Qwest tech called me earlier today in response to my e-mail, acknowledged that this specific modem (2Wire 2701HG-D) with this firmware version (QT04-6.1.5.48) has a known problem concerning the downloading of large files with a stall at 2GB. As this particular modem is a few years old and they are no longer supporting firmware updates for it, Qwest is sending me their newest modem by UPS for free. It should arrive by Friday.
Honestly I'm a bit blown away by the prompt and helpful service. I'm glad to be having this resolved without any money spent and not too much time wasted. Thumbs up to Qwest's "Talk To Qwest" service. Just in case anyone with similar issues stumbles upon this thread, the home portal for the service is Talk To Qwest - Qwest's social media portal.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help me out! -
Can you or other members possibly post the hashes for the two 64-bit ISOs here?
In my case,
X15-65805.iso:
MD5 - 7B7AF5FE3A01E9FD76DE4DACB45A796B
SHA1 - 50127304441A793EE51B3F501289F6599A559E9F
CRC32 - 502C42C1
Size: 3.00GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Size on disk: 3.00GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Thanks in advance for any feedback! -
Summary info for the X15-65805.iso file as downloaded:
File: X15-65805.iso (W7 Professional)
CRC-32: 502c42c1
MD4: c02269f95241160bd597530cb4f556d9
MD5: 7b7af5fe3a01e9fd76de4dacb45a796b
SHA-1: 50127304441a793ee51b3f501289f6599a559e9f
Size on disk: 3.00 GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Summary info for the X15-65733.iso file as downloaded:
File: X15-65733.iso (W7 HomePremium)
CRC-32: 56d954e4
MD4: 2ebb301e0ad66e88e55dc6b5fbbd497e
MD5: 758887088235024058d1c8eb6efb85a8
SHA-1: 336779ea6b65f63e11a609b4d021439c47ab315b
Size on disk: 3.00 GB (3,224,686,592 bytes)
Edit: The reason the hashes for the two downloads are different is that one file is W7 Professional and the other is W7 HomePremium. Once the ei.cfg file has been removed both files are equivalent. -
Just want to say thanks for this post. Bought a few laptops recently that always come loaded with crap ware. Always like to wipe it completely clean. The ABR software to transfer your license is such a awesome little tool. The guide was also very easy to follow. Thanks again.

The following MSDN downloads info page shows an X15-65805.iso with SHA1 and CRC32 hashes identical to deeastman's and mine.

just joined this forum to say thanks , job well done!
I'll be receiving my notebook this week and the information here was very helpful -
I have done all the above, I am having difficulties trying to get it onto a disk as it either says disk isn't empty, or it copies and there just isn't anything on the disk when its done.
Is wins7.iso the thing I am meant to be putting on to a disk?
What I am wanting to do is do a clean install of windows 7, I am really not sure the best way to go about this, as I want to keep my laptops 'fatory settings' option just incase, does reinstalling W7 wipe that? -
As long as you dont touch the factory recovery partition, the data should remain intact, but you may lose the ability to access it and you'll need to fix it later. Does your computer allow you to make recovery DVDs? -
-
I have a partition (take that to mean another drive than C on mycomputer) called D (148gb out of 350 whole), with 'HDD recovery' folder and than a tag file. The HDD recovery folder in 8.08gb. Am i right in assuming thats the factory recovery?
Would that be wiped if I reinstalled the win7.iso? can I copy it to my external HDD?
Thanks for the help. -
What is in the recovery folder? -
Thank you colleagues!
I downloaded the 23 bit ISO and burned it as an image on a DVD, installed it. It works now smoothly, no issues. -
thanks for this it was helpful with my new notebook

sorry to have to ask this again, but I keep getting conflicting info on 32bit to 64bit upgrade....
can you really upgrade from a preinstalled OEM 32bit windows 7 to a 64bit one using the ABR program??? I called my local lenovo center and the rep says I can't do that. I've googled and someone on the microsoft forums also says no.
so, if you buy a separate key from sites like digitalriver you can use the key for both 32 and 64bit windows interchangeably (like someone says on page2 of this thread), but not if your activation is OEM -

I was having a big problem yesterday that I resolved today. I downloaded the x86 ISO in the first post and used the utility to enable it to be installed as any version of windows 7. It asked what version I wanted near the beginning and it seemed to install everything fine. Then when it came to the activation key, it said that it was not valid. However, I used the same key to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro. I went back and double checked everything. I also downloaded the iso again, ran the utility, and reburned it to no avail. Nothing I could do was working. Then after investigating further, I found out that the 32-bit iso linked in the first post is for Windows 7 Pro anyway. I downloaded it again, but burned it straight to disk without running the utility. It worked like a charm. I'm still not sure what went wrong, but it is all sorted out now.

all versions are available in 64 bit

I found the md5 checksum for the iso and it checked out fine. I ran the eicfg utility as an admin and it allowed me to select what version of windows to install so I feel like that worked out fine. It is just that no matter what I did it was telling me that the key was not correct. After I found out that the ISO I was modifying with the eicfg remover was for 32 bit windows 7 pro anyway, I downloaded it again and didn't run eicfg remover before burning myself a disk. This turned out to work without a hitch. -
which one of this files would be the ei.cfg be located it its not coming up ina search
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent....-en-us-x64.exe
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent....946/setup1.box
http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent....946/setup2.box -
If I were to take a guess I would say it would be in the setup2.box file. Why? Because the Sources folder is 2.91 GB in size and setup2.box is the largest file. Setup1.box is only 160MB, and x64.exe is around 75MB. -

Hi guys, I used the ISO-Method and ended up with Win7 Pro that cannot be activated. I used ABR to backup my one week old 4820TG's preinstalled Home Prem activation. Then installed Win successfully, did not have to choose which Win ver to install, it just installed. I entered no product key and unchecked auto online activation. When I tried to restore the activation, nothing happened, because I somehow installed the wrong ver or at some stage did not select the correct one, I guess. What should I do?
EDIT: Problem solved.
I used the first method (3 files) and I was able to select which version to be installed. -

My Win7 LT arrives in a couple of days and I want to be ready to do a clean install. If I run all of the steps to create and burn the ISO on my XP box will there be any issues?
EDIT: What I meant was can I burn the 64bit ISO on my 32bit XP? The ISO is created and matches but when I try to burn it I get an error that the file is over 2gb in size. Any ideas what is the cause? -
The first thing that comes to mind is that the max file size of a file on a FAT32 formated system is 2GB, but somehow I don't see that as the problem.
What media are you trying to burn the ISO to when you get the file size error and what program are you using to burn it? Also remember you don't want to burn the actual ISO but a bootable image of the ISO. -
I tried using ImgBurn and Nero and using DVD's. It may be my burner. I have an external burner and will give that a try. If that doesn't work the new LT is due in tomorrow so I will just use it to burn it.

I managed to forget to backup my OEM activation. Any solution? (ASUS K42Ja, W7 Home Premium)
Also, when I start up the computer, it gives me a choice of OS: Windows 7 or Windows 7. Why is this so? I only installed once. They appear identical, except for one having a weird screen resolution (1024x768 on a 14" screen), and the other having a normal one. I am quite sure they aren't even separate setups, just two pathways to the same OS installation.
Any help would be appreciated. -
I have gotten as far as actually downloading the Zip file for the ocmdimg, however when try to run this application, the black screen appears (as shown on page one) for a split second, then vanishes, and i still have no ocmdimg.exe file anywhere to be found, so i cannot copy this to the system32 folder :S. I trie extracting the zip file by right clicking, managed to extract and it made a new folder on m,y desktop with the same application inside, then i tried running this also but the same thing happened and still no exe. file, any suggestions?
EDIT: Escuse my stupidity, i have now resolved the issue -
Hello everyone. Great thread.
I have a quick question, which I hope someone can help me with. Maybe it's been asked before, but after reading 16 pagesI thought I'd better just ask.
I have a Win 7 Upgrade version DVD which I purchased and installed on my desktop PC many months ago (to upgrade from XP).
I've just recently ordered a Dell laptop and am expecting delivery in a few weeks. Since Dell no longer ships the OS disk, can I use the Win 7 disk that I currently own, to do a clean install using the key provided by Dell?
Many thanks. -
Sure the professional will chime in soon, there is heaps of information this somewhere, I read up on it in depth, Windows 7 forum or something it was called, probably even lots of threads on here -
Hello Friends,
First of all it's a great thread
I bought a Dell Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit pre-installed. Dell didn't provide me OS DVD, though a Product key is printed at the bottom of my laptop. I have following query w.r.t ISO Method:
* I have to download both the ISO Files mentioned in Mirror 1 and Mirror 2 Links of Windows 7 x86? Or I have to download any one of them (either Mirror 1 or Mirror 2)? - Silly Question but please help
Thanks and Regards -

Hi, I am new to this forum & found it really helpful, good job guys & bundle of thanks!!
My question is about the "ISO method" of installation. I can open the downloaded iso in win rar and many other applications and see the contents and delete them; why do I need that application "eficfg_removal_utility"?

if my laptop comes with Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 32-bit, English. Can i download and install the 64bit of windows 7 home premium and use that instead. If so, can i use that abr program that was linked to this topic or will that cause activation issues?
-
I don't think ABR should cause any activation issues; the only problem with it is that it may or may not work. The ABR for windows 7 is a beta. I got it to work on my acer 1830T win7 Home premium x64, but I could not get it to work on my thinkpad X201i, so I just used the activation sticker underneath. (There is one thing about my story though: for my X201i I went from 32 bit Win7 Pro to 64 bit Win7 Pro, so that may have caused ABR to not work somehow.)
If you clean install, you might as well give ABR a try. -
Do someone have a like for the Japanese 64bit version
