    LEGAL Windows XP download?

    Hi,

    I lost the CD that came with my old dell, and i dont think i know anyone with a windows XP cd.

    Does anyone know where i can download winxp so i can use my key on it?

    Nope. There are no legal Windows XP downloads. (Unless from MSDN or something of course).

    oh, that sucks :(

    so any suggestions on how to reinstall? its an inspiron 8200 from 2002, i just dug it out of the store room a few weeks ago to try out linux on it, but drivers were a headache, so i want to put XP back on it as i am going to sri lanka next week,

    and i thought i could give it to my 13 year old cousin there who dosent have a computer (the only cyber cafe in the village was using a 66MHz pentium on windows 95 :| )

    Contact Dell. They should provide one for you, probably for a nominal fee. I don't know if you need one specifically from them or if a regular XP would work with that key.

    generic XP should work, i've used OEM keys on retail CD's before.

    Well, they haven't changed the links as far as I'm aware (in fact a quick Google search shows they're still working and widely available). Now, granted, MS/DR not changing the links does not imply that MS/DR is OK with people downloading them. It would stand to reason, however, that they would change them if they were not.
