Nope. There are no legal Windows XP downloads. (Unless from MSDN or something of course).

oh, that sucks
so any suggestions on how to reinstall? its an inspiron 8200 from 2002, i just dug it out of the store room a few weeks ago to try out linux on it, but drivers were a headache, so i want to put XP back on it as i am going to sri lanka next week,
and i thought i could give it to my 13 year old cousin there who dosent have a computer (the only cyber cafe in the village was using a 66MHz pentium on windows 95 :| ) -

Maybe you can buy a disk. Should be under $20.

Contact Dell. They should provide one for you, probably for a nominal fee. I don't know if you need one specifically from them or if a regular XP would work with that key.
-
generic XP should work, i've used OEM keys on retail CD's before.

Well, they haven't changed the links as far as I'm aware (in fact a quick Google search shows they're still working and widely available). Now, granted, MS/DR not changing the links does not imply that MS/DR is OK with people downloading them. It would stand to reason, however, that they would change them if they were not.
LEGAL Windows XP download?
