Hey, I'm not sure if this is the correct forums for this sort of question but I was curious, does anyone here know what kinds of software they used during the making of the LOTR trilogy? I remember watching the "making of" and that they used some kind of software to multiply the extras that composed of the hordes of orcs to make it look like legions. That sort of thing.

I'm very curious about filmmaking software period, so any resources would be great.

Thanks for your help ahead of time!

I'm not sure what software they used, but it is probably for professional development and one license alone probably costs hundreds of dollars.
