For the longest time, I have had trouble with lagging .gifs (animated pictures) in Internet Explorer. From XP up until W7 now, and now using IE8, if the page has more than one gif, or the the gif is particularly large, it lags the whole page until the window is minimized. Since I'm now using W7/IE8, I have to assume it is related somehow to the OS or browser.

When I load gifs offline, either with a windows media player or my photo editing programs, the gif loads fine. My CPU and RAM are all at normal levels, and everything else for the most part is computing flawlessly and as expected, considering how great my system's specs are relatively.

I have some questions to ask of other users who do NOT experience general lag with gif files in internet browsers, in hopes of discovering the fault in my system. This is obviously a software problem. My graphics card loads my games quite well, and loads it with more FPS than many desktop counterparts, so I've discounted that theory...

    1) What is your Temporary Internet Files size set to? Mine is 250 mb.

    2) What is the default program selected to load gif files offline? Mine is currently WMP. I've experimented with photo programs, paint, windows picture viewer, etc. to no avail.

    3) Are there other settings in IE8 that I'm overlooking that could be impacting image performance/loading in-browser? Any help there?

I had noticed this too with any browser and web pages containing too many animated gif's.

No. And I don't find your posts useful. Just because something is new, doesn't make it better. IE8 and Firefox have largely the same plugins and the same functionality. The only substantial difference is customizability of firefox and perhaps security - none of which concern this issue.

I'm a little frustrated no one was able to even answer my three questions above. I'm not looking for a definitive answer here, but those answers would at least guide me.

    1.) I have mine at 250 MB
2.) I don't load them off line normally, if viewed it would be IE8.
3.) Not that I know of, I however don't seem to have your issue.......
