    The firefox browser used to be fine recently I have been experiencing lag and very often the browser hangs for a few seconds and during that time I can't do anything to it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox but the problem persists. And then I turned AVG off and the browser runs fine for now... So I think the problem is AVG. I kept all the settings at default and I am not sure what's wrong with it. Any ideas?

    Use avira instead. AVG 8.0 is bloated.

    Here here to Avira, scanner is better and interface is cleaner. What likely was causing your lag was a badly coded on-demand scanning engine for AVG.

    AVG 8 was great until it slowed my EeePC down to a crawl. Switched to Avast! and my PC is now crusing. :)

    I might try Avira, heard good things about that AV.

    Avira is a much better antivirus program. However, it does not have all the bells and whistles that AVG does. Avira is less of a resource hog, has better detection rates, and scans your computer much quicker

    If you want all the bells and whistles then go with Avast, that's supposedly better than AVG as well.

    If you want to continue using AVG 8.0, install it like this

    Run the installation with the parameters /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch. One way to achieve this is to:
    save the AVG Free installation file directly to disk C:\
    open menu Start -> Run
    type
    c:\avg_free_stf_*.exe /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch

    firefox still hangs even disabling AVG. I don't think it's AVG's problem anymore ><
